i hate to as usual be a skeptic, but for me computer game problems are a hit or miss for me. either a game has problems from day 1 till god knows when. or it doesn't at all. and the latest posts has me a bit worried. i can see that 50% chance the game will run like crap, and 50% it will be awesome. i think i'll wait to see what comes.
i have to many games i fight with to run for a few minutes at best. all of them are now in a separate harddrive partition, and the problems have yet to show any sign of stopping. this was after 2 years of hunting everywhere for a remedy of any kind. i do not want to go through that with minecraft. because the seperated games i have i hardly touch with a ten foot pole anymore. it sucks cause many are favs. heck spending 1k on a new pc for the games is a good enough reason to be cautious. considering the new pc didn't help the games much. it's an awesome machine, but ....
Ok I've seen people complaining about the thing how netikins (NPC's) go into the same house together like its a party, but I think it's sorta cool coz one time they went into the largest house, which was connected up to the other largest house long ways, so I made lots of redstone lamps flash like it was a real party, so that was pretty cool! I'll send a video or some pictures some time!
I'd like to say congratulation on the release, but..... Well, one thing is absolutely clear: Jeb was right; this shouldn't have been released.
We are now going to need an official patch to fix the multitude of issues present in this... official patch. No, it's not as bad as Microsoft Windows, but nor is it INDIE good. Massive problems with various types of lag in multiplayer, as well as bugs (pistons popping in multiple directions?) Missing block placements, sound lagging, this list goes on. How about a brand new fast server confronted with "cannot keep up" errors with NO MODS or PLUGINS installed? The server aspect of single player is not well implemented or optimized, and is causing playability issues as a result.
This release has a "rushed" feel to it. Let's slow the heck down and get this thing fixed. How about some snapshots leading up to some major fixes for a release we could call 1.35?
1. Performance seemed noticeably choppy. Which is ridiculous... I just finished building a brand-new system, which runs previous releases smooth as silk.
2. Viewing distance came up lower than in 1.25. No idea if this is a bug or a feature, but definitely not welcome. (Yes, I know I can meddle with this using various mods. That's not the point.)
3. Most important, when I started digging coal in brand-new world, I started getting experience for it. That was the deal-breaker. Might as well remove the experience system entirely, if you're going to hand out points for digging, walking and breathing.
I've been with Minecraft since way back in the olden days, but this is the first release I've seen that seemed noticeably worse than the one before, in both build quality and feature set. Good thing I made backups. I fear that 1.31 will need a LOT of fixing before I'll be willing to install it again. And even more strongly, I fear that unless Mojang gets its butt in gear and develops a clear vision for the future of Minecraft, few of us will ever make it to version 2.0.0.

i hate to admit it being a long time minecraft fan started a few days before the halloween update, i have come to almost see minecraft as my own virtual world.
but you are more then right, patches had a few problems in the past, but from what i have read, it would be a mistake to update, my apologize to mohjang, but right now i'll just be patient and wait. rushing doesn't help anything, i know from an artist's perspective. quality beats a rush job almost every time. sonic 06 is the best example of a god awful rush job and a half. i don't want minecraft to become like that.

Why is this such a big issue? What is experience used for? When you "level up" do you do more damage to monsters? Do you regenerate faster? Get hungry less?
Or can you just enchant weapons, randomly? Can you just enchant several axes now, instead of just one, trying to get the enchantments you want? Can you do this without building a spawner trap?
Can you do this without having to spend a great deal of time building library blocks?
I understand experience being a problem, if it wasn't just another form of in game cash. Cash that can only be spent on enchanting...randomly...

It's not as bad as you think, and the way it was explained by one of the Mojang crew (I don't remember who, or where) made sense to me. This is Minecraft. Not Fightcraft. Why should you NOT get experience for mining? What is so special about killing a skeleton that gives you the experience to enchant a pickaxe, that you can't also get from using a pickaxe?
But anyway, if that's your criteria, you will be on 1.2.5 for life. Or you'll stop playing. Because they're not changing it back, good or bad.

lol, this is one of the many features i like, heck most of the new features i have been dying to have in the game for years it seems like. i have no idea how this is a bad thing either, i love the new exp methods. and it's not like it comes from cobblestone and dirt. heck half the time in this game is spent mining. as the poster said, 'mine' craft. you only get it from ore which is nowhere near as common as stone. so i completely agree this feature is awesome. it is a pain now to grind exp. i don't have an exp machine. this will make it less of a headache.
my concerns are the technical issues arising, the stutter, lag, etc... it seems to be better on win 7 and a multi-core pc, i have one of those along with a 2 gig graphics card and more then enough ram to burn for even skyrim. and my fallout 3 with a freaking ton of mods.
but still there are people who have pure custom gaming machines, who get issues in games that run fine on mine, and there are others with crappier pcs then mine and can run the game better. it's annoying to say the least.
Anyone that has computer problems , should just quit computers and go be a landscaper.
I already did that! You think I have computer problems, you should see the scapped land I did!
Also, a computer problem(s) doesn't require one to be "into computers". My eighty-year-old grandmother, for instance, has computer problems daily. If I told her your advice, she would probably have a heart attack from all the extra work!
My only words of comfort are to remember Mojang is not Blizzard. Mojang is not SquareEnix. Mojang is not a company with hundreds (if not thousands) on their staff.
Guess what happens when there are less workers working on something? (It gets done slower, and will have more flaws due to lack of flaw checkers.)
Which reminds me, a small playerbase that could talk with the larger version on behalf of Mojang would help shore up them low worker numbers....

If I had a way to contact them, I might do so. Though I attribute the tweet to them as part of the problem. What I mean to say is, I am not a fancy pants. Someone else has to have proffered this idea to them.
Honestly, I think they should use the moderators of the sections that require game+computer know-how.
I would offer my services, but I am only good at typing really long posts and playing buggy games
(Just a joke Mojang, you know I love yous!)
To be honest, if their company is as small as I think it is. (under 50 folks total) then I am surprised that they are doing as well as they are. Think, how many millions of folks have the game? Subtract 50, (That's if ALL of them Mojangers went to customer support of course)
We still have at least 999,940 folks that could have issues. Since some of those folks come here, we (the players that are not having issues with the game) could do our deeds; see if we can help out too.
Lastly, and I can't stress this enough; I feel your pain!! Players who can not play MC, or have a horrible time whilst playing. I hope my posts have not come off as "Too bad so sad". 1.3.1 has been a wonderful update (content wise) however, if you can't play it then it is a terrible update. I am reading everyones troubles, but I don't know the first thing about repairing them. Hell, many of the puters involved would anal rape mine if given the chance!
The thing that i don't like about this update is the wood placement, i wish that if you shift and then you place the block it would allow you to place the block sideways, because it annoys me to have to stare down to put the block straight
Anyone that has computer problems , should just quit computers and go be a landscaper.
O_o eh that makes no sense. most of the time it is not my machine with the problems, but the glitch ridden games i put on it. and for dragon age i have tried every fix i could find, nothing helped. even my new graphics card with 2 gig memory helped every other game but that one. i can even run skyrim better, the glitched to hell game that was a bug fest on release day runs better then dragon age. at that point i blame the game not the system.
i can also get pc issues without much effort. pc issues are just a thing that comes with owning a pc. and i don't want to go out of my mind if minecraft turns into a hell trip like da:o is. by now i have given up on da:o because there is no reason i can find that explains why it runs like crap on my pc.
To everybody saying we need to form a community of people to report bugs... we already have that, and it's working. Even better, YOU are in that community.
Mojang DOES read this wiki and works off of it. They are not guaranteed to fix your bug, or even consider it a bug. But they will read it and react to it.

Considering all the bugs mentioned in this thread were on that wiki page right after the snapshot (AND prerelease) Seems to be a bit of a moot page, no?
Sure, the bug is listed there. But with no conformation from Mojang, how are we to know that they are working on it?
Most companies I deal with have an actual website that caters to these things, not "twitter" accounts wikis and blogs. Hell even the minecraft.net site is out of date, or did they finally remove Notch's twitter posts? (When did he quit partaking in development?)
Again, all this stuff does is point to a lack of communication. For a company with a small staff, it is understandable. When Cryptic Studios hit this issue, they formed a player base to fill the gap. Not to mention their forum moderators assisted in gap filling...
Does Mojang own these forums? If that is a no, where are their forums? (Oh yeah...)

Actually, this thread is the moot page. Mojang has never posted in any of these threads that I know of.

They don't (always) mark when they're working on something, but they do mark when something is worked on, or if it's considered not to be a bug. And they do fix things put there. I put a bug there and they fixed it. It took about a month, but it was quicker than if I'd only mentioned it here.

Most companies you deal with (I assume) aren't a dozen guys who had several million dollars dropped in their laps, given to them for a game that was in all likelihood (at the time) to remain in beta forever.
They do not own these forums, Curse does. I don't believe Mojang participates in them at all. Nor do they have a forum to my knowledge. The wiki is the only reliable way to pass information to them that I know of. And it does work, albeit slowly and without the feedback level you may prefer.
I do not "prefer" anything. Mojang is handling things to the best of their abilities, I mean who wouldn't? While I never have posted on the wiki (bugs, or elsewhere) I do check it everytime I hit one. And, every time, it is already listed. (Hence the not posting)
All I offered was an idea that would help them sift through the bugs to the more important ones. Ones that should not be in a full release. (IE Nether death) Since that was happening in the snapshot prior to the pre-release, it should never have made it into the release.
Again, when I experienced the bug in the aforementioned snapshot. I checked the wiki to see it was already posted. (It was.)
I just downloaded and set up the newest snapshot (for 1.4) I have not tried any Nether travel yet, but I imagine the bug is gone by now.
Again, I like Mojang. I like Minecraft. Do I think they could handle tech support better, sure. Am I right? Who knows; I don't.
EDIT--
Snapshot still has the water current + block = damage.
could be that view bobbing is switched on? always makes me kinda sea sick
POV slider could also be responsible for making the game look different
both options are in the graphics menu
I always turned off bobbing and the POV (are you talking about FOV?) is always down, I put all my settings as I always have to the lowest form as I can, because I run on a laptop, it barely can play as it is. I don't know why, but when I turn on the "Advance OpenGL" which I normally keep off, is the only thing that seems to help me still play this... I don't know for the life of me what it could be.
To clarify, here are my current settings:
Video Settings: (reading Left to Right)
Fast, Short, On, Max FPS, Off, Off, Auto, On, Bright, Off, All, Off (this seems to be the only setting that is remotely working, I'm still getting headaches, but at least now I can play my normal hour long Let's Plays without rushing out the room vomiting). Normally it's Fast, Tiny, Off, Max FPS, Off, Off, Auto, Off, Bright, Off, Minimal, Off
FOV is always on Normal. I was beginning to wonder if there was a change in graphics in some way that's making me get sick? It still acts extremely lagging on these settings, but at least now I can play it. I just really feel bad for anyone watching my Let's Plays at this point. Furthermore, I've found playing on Multi-player is completely fine, this is only effective in single player... I really don't understand how this could possibly be, it's honestly baffling me.
Sorry it took so long to respond to this, it took me forever to refind my post.
