I don't understand why so many people have performance issues. I'm playing on a little notebook (It's quite new but nothing to be called something especially for gaming) on render distance small while simultaniously Mozilla Firefox is running a YouTube video on 360p and I get about 20 FPS. Even if I host a server on my notebook and play on it I get 30 FPS (but without YouTube). Either I'm just very lucky or your computers are crap but for me everything is working as it is supposed to. Maybe Minecraft isn't fully compatible to your computer or something like that.
I don't get it either! I am playing it a bunch on a low-end laptop and the framerate is higher than it's ever been!
I actually like the SMP merge. I like the idea of being able to put all of the multiplayer bugs on the singleplayer side, and just be able to squish them on one program. Also, when the mods start to update for 1.3.1, it will encourage mod developers to make their mods multiplayer-compatible! My friend and I always hated it when we would find a mod that we both liked that didn't work in multiplayer.

I seem to be of a minority!
1.3.1 has been a great update, in my minor opinion. The only "game breakers" that have been introduced would be:
Water Current Push + Block = Damage
And, the more (again, my opinion) important:
Go to Nether + Return from Nether + Go to Nether = Free trip to Void
I can see how the first, could have been missed. But the second...Mojang!!!
Dost thou have play testers? I mean, that kind of bug should have been experienced LONG before it was a snapshot (let alone a full release)
All well, other than those two issues. I have run into nothing that has made my gameplay "bad".
As for FPS issues, I run a server AND play the game on the same machine. Which means I am running two servers now, since the client is a server too. No lag. This computer is an "off the shelf" ACER that was 1000 bucks. I don't have the exact specs, needless to say it is NOT top of the line. It wasn't that 3 years ago when I bought it.
Sorry that all you folks are having these problems. 1.3.1 has been a great update, if you get to experience it as I have. (Minus the above of course.)
Again, Mojang, two words: Play testers.
Or, three words: MORE play testers
PS: We are not play testers, even though that is what the snapshots are for. Just because our feedback is not listened to, or these bugs would have been quashed after the "pre-release"
Someone please help me. I have a world that i have had for a long time. I went and downloaded 1.3 today but i noticed that i cant put cheats on for the world. Is it possible for me to put the cheats on for a world that i already had?
no you cant put cheats on a world you already had when you create a new world theres an option for that were you put seeds and stuff.
This was a terrible idea... i cant stress it enough.. you should have given people the option to play it like it was... is it really that difficult to program, because if it is maybe you need to find a different job
I agree
Again I agree
I agree too, I would just tell Jeb that the merge was a bad idea, because a lot of people hate it already and that there were other ways to implement the mod API.

Perhaps someone with more clout should lobby for a community proxy for Mojang?
For the Layman: We need a small group of community members that can talk straight to the bug department at Mojang. A "unified voice" so to speak.
Right now they get massive amounts of "spam" (No matter the content, with the amounts they are recieving it all lumps together.) I mean it was enough for Jeb to "teach a lesson" by removing the emerald blocks. If we had a small group that the community as a whole talked through, it would make these game breaking bugs less likely to appear. (if at all)
Not saying "no bugs", just saying that these huge ones could be ID'ed before it is "too late". (IE: Official Release) Plenty of Mods Moderators here, perhaps they could shoulder some of the bug reporting load? Or the folks over at the Wiki?
Really, this smells like a communication error. I don't think they knew these bugs were there....well I hope they didn't know...
I love the game, and I respect Mojang as the artists they are. I hope you folks experiencing problems can get them resolved! I would recommend a nicer approach than I have seen in here, but I understand frustration sucks like that

If you guys aren't really happy with 1.3.1, Then the stay at 1.2.5.. I know there are bugs, and quite some technical glitches, but you complaining won't help the update process for minecraft. If you was working on a game, and you had a bunch of people complaining about its recent update, you would tell them to revert to the previous version, and to wait until your done. It doesnt matter if they take 2 months for updates, complaining helps with nothing. Dont complain about the bugs that you are gettings, Explain them so they know whats wrong instead of something stupid like "OMG I FELL AND GOT STUCK AND DIED AND IM MAD, MINECRAFT SUCKS!!!" First of all I would have no clue what your even talking about. And i doubt anyone else would understand what caused that and how. Just expressing my opinions here so yea. If 1.3.1 Didn't have the bugs that it did, It would be pretty great, but until its fixed, im sticking with 1.2.5

If the mods are for 1.2.5 or for 1.3.1 anyways you don't have to post them here because this is only for the "clean" minecraft and not for modded minecrafts. The bug must come from the mods and not from the game it self cause nobody else gets the error.

Of course, many of the reported bugs in this thread are already on that page. Which reminds me of my post before this one.....play testers.....
If ye would listen to us snapshot testers, these bugs (gamebreakers) would be less likely to crop up in a "stable" release....
Do you have those mods for 1.3.1 or are they still 1.2.5?
