The only way it will even begin to hurt the modding community is if everyone who currently plays on the PC goes out, buys and Xbox, and starts to play Minecraft on it. And I highly doubt anyone with a computer that handles Minecraft on its best settings(Far render distance, smooth lighting, fast MP, no framerate cap or whatever) will be switching over. I doubt anyone that runs it decently at all will switch over. Especially if there is no way to mod Minecraft on the 360.
You've never seen the "anti-hacking" engine from Microsoft. This is not the only way it can hurt the modding community as you are suggesting.
As I tried to say before and I'll say it again because it isn't getting across here, Microsoft certainly could put some corporate pressure on to stop modding.
Just don't say I didn't warn you here. So be it, because I'm belaboring this point to death now. Microsoft == Evil Empire of Software, and for a pretty good reason. I have seen "hacker" or "mod" groups killed before from games and other popular software project before.
The mod community would never go away, but it could "go underground" in a pretty big way. There are mods for Runescape and World of Warcraft too, but far more often those mods are things you want to avoid explicitly because the modding community has gone underground and has been mixed up with the identity theft hacker community. I could give other more concrete examples (most especially to Apple Computers, who used to be extremely friendly to hackers then lost their way) but I'll leave that for others if they care to respond.
As I said, there is a danger of something bad happening here, but the die isn't cast yet to kill off modding. I'm not trying to be alarmist here but there is a real danger and it is something that can and ought to be fought against before it even remotely becomes a problem. At the moment, I don't see any specific threats or problems, so it is only a mere warning flag and no more. But the problem is not strictly limited to those who want to play the Xbox version.
I have a kinect(biggest waste of $300 i have ever spent) and i cant wait to see how watered down it will have to be to be playable. Pc users will just end up being bug testers for the xbox version.
For the most part, the XBOX360 version won't effect the classic PC players. We just get all the benefits. Untill Microsoft pays Notch to release updates on the 360 first..
But really guys think of it. kinect has item recognition so if needed you could buy a pick and u could alos just use ur hand to mine. He will prob come out with a ps3 version but sony alreadys bribed for phone only so now microsoft has console only for now :DDDD
Ha Ha Ha Notch. Seriously though don't even joke about that dude.

I pray that all the xbox kids are graphic whores and will stick to CoD and leave Minecraft in the dust..
just.. no..
Screw you dude. I play Xbox and I also play Minecraft. Stop being a PC fanboy and suck it up, life goes on. Don't get your panties in a bunch over something that HAS NO EFFECT ON YOU. Jesus dude, that's pathetic that you're such a fanboy you are having a ****ing meltdown when other people get to play a great game. You're like a hipster "i knew about minecraft when it was still underground". Pathetic dude.
FIX THE ****ING GAME FIRSTWHO GIVES A **** ABOUT THE CONSOLE SHITJUST AS LONG AS THOSE ****ERS DON'T GET ON THE FORUMSFIX THE GODDAMN GAME SO IT STOPS CRASHING YOU ****ING SELLOUT
You guys suck... I disagree with all of you. I'm excited about the console version. I don't have a good enough computer to play games on it so I have to leave to play Minecraft. I have an Xbox and I love it. I also though think that it will be good and bad for Minecraft-by the way losers all the console f**** who watched the E3 today know about it and that's alot of people- it will be good because he gets more publicity and money from Xbox but then computer guys will still buy it. If Notch is a good business man he won't care about the guys who say that they are going to stop playing... you've already bought the game retards. Notch from what I've read and seen though is a good business man. Which means that his team probobly pushed him to do it. He most likely will not come out and say that. I hope you have listened to me and you have finally made it to the end of this post :-). Thanks for reading the whole thing.
I'm looking forward to a console version of the game. I do enjoy the PC version, but expanding the audience to reach a broader spectrum of gamers is a great thing. Minecraft is a truly amazing game, and deserves to be played by everyone.
It saddens me to see the outrage on the forums, the "360 fanboy" hate, when in actuality, you whom are saying all of this are in fact worse than the people you claim to hate. I have played games of Call of Duty with people who have more tolerance for others then the people on this forum. So what if people on XBox's come onto this site, I'm sure a fair chunk of the people on here own either a 360 or a PS3... What's the big deal if the people who play the game on that are here? Do you think we should segregate them for their choice in platform? If so, what difference is there from you and people who claim "their" religion is the one true religion, that "their" race is the one true race? I'm here for the enjoyment of a Video Game, What about you?
All I want to know is:DO I HAVE TO HAVE KINECT TO PLAY THIS ON MY XBOX?I hate Kinect. It's just the Xbox Wii60. So I really hope that Minecraft isn't going to be one of those Kinect-only games, but rather, use the controller and have "Kinectability."
