The real issue at hand here is that because Mojang decided to announce it in this way, they stand to possibly fracture the community in multiple ways via fanboyism and overzealous keyboard warriors. I think this would have been much less of an issue if they'd had just said, "We are beginning development on console versions." and not named one in particular.
I've noticed a trend of 3 separate sets of negative arguments against this, spawning from just this one subject. 1. Some are upset that it was announced for one particular console and support for it's peripheral and not it's competitors.
2. Some are upset that console ports were announced this early into the development cycle.
and
3. Some are upset that funding priority isn't focused on finishing the product itself and is instead spread out.
That's not to say this is bad news, but I do believe it was executed poorly, at least for this week in particular.
Ya kinda my thoughts but I am more afraid of the X-box gamers ruining the community
The minecraft community is the main reason I play this game
I also find it rediculous that people are complaining over Not going to PS3 lots of games do not go to PS before X-Box
minecraft community is already evil, 'cod' is not going to make it worse
'dev cycle' has less then 6 months until release, and new people are working on it it does not affect the pc devs
first people complaign that notch doesnt spend enough money on his minecraft baby, then he spends it and they complaign that he is spending money (refer to first point)
Notch. I love you so much. But why. WHY. WHY HAVE YOU LOST YOUR BRAIN? YOUR BRILLIANT BRAIN! WHERE IS IT!?!? I CAN'T FIND IT!WE'RE ALL GOING TO BE EATEN ALIVE BY XBOX FANBOYS!EVERYONE BUILD SOME SHELTER OUT OF SOMETHING STRONG! LIKE OBSIDIAN! BRACE FOR IMPACT! FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUU-That's all I've got to say.
I'm a pretty hard-core 360 gamer no pc games what-so-ever, although some of the people on my xbl friends list are , which is how I came to know of minecrafts existance....
Up till now I've been building in fortresscraft on and off , usually between long sessions on other games...
So I'm all excited about E3 and tune in for the big microsoft press conference ( which sucked for the most part )
and out of the blue the announce minecraft? Sweet!!! Hopefully it'll have alot more options than fortresscraft which is a really cool venue to express creativity but i feel could use a more advanced tool kit.
I've noticed alot of hostile posts to minecraft coming to the 360, but as a 360 xbl gamer i cant say im anything but pleased... xbox live is a VERY social medium and mindcraft is a social game.
There is quite a bit of fail on this forum. No one was bitching about not getting updates when Minecraft was announced for phones. Not to mention that Minecraft is coming out for the 360 in December, which is actually after 11/11/11, which, if you could manage to use your pea-sized brains to remember things, is actually the day Minecraft is scheduled to be finished. Afterwards, Notch is going to add more updates, and since all of these PC-elitists obviously have never touched an xbox, I'll fill you in on the fact that the likelihood of any updates moving from the PC version to Minecraft are very slim. Even so, this wouldn't halt any updates in the slightest. Also, to anyone wondering if mods are coming xbox Minecraft, read this.

Notch, i really dont think this is a good idea. i know alot of things that when they get super popular, they advertise like a maniac. it will ruin the joy of minecraft. dont you see all your fans arent excited! please dont do this! For us! p.s. if you do do this make it for 360 not kinect.

Does anyone even realize that MineCraft is supposed to be out of Beta by the fall? I have seen maybe 4 or 5 people who made decent posts about this. Honestly, if it would be announced for PS3 all of the people who own Xbox would have lost their **** as well. Quit acting all high and mighty when in reality, you are just wanting to complain like everyone else. I for one want this to come in the WINTER of this year. Which for those of you who don't know your seasons is after FALL. So, minecraft will be out of beta by then. and for everyone saying "Oh, now I have to stop playing because it has been released on a console that I don't like." Just shut the **** up and enjoy the game on your PC and stay on YOUR PC, no one ever said "MICROSOFT OWNS MINECRAFT" no one ever said you HAD to play it on PC. I don't understand how some many of you people lose faith in a game/company that has pushed out a game that MILLIONS of people play on PC. If you are one of the people raging about the move. Then think about what your saying before you post and maybe you might get some recognition, but saying "I'm leaving" isn't going to convince ANYONE to make a PS3 version. Thanks for reading, box

Howcome standard formatting dosen't work yet this troglodyte can spam emotes like a tard... This news section of the site really has to be fixed... The forums are adequate though. As for the news. It kinda concerns me, well not really my 20$ was spent ages ago in many ways so im not loseing anything really. But I think Notch and Mojang could be overreaching a bit here. They dont seem to be able to handle development at even an amature level, bunking up with Microsoft may tear them out of their indy comfort zone with MS's corporate minded professionalism. Notch may wanna tread lightly.
Ya kinda my thoughts but I am more afraid of the X-box gamers ruining the community

Really? Because I find that this community sucks, mainly because of people like you. It's quite interesting that you're scared of xbox gamers, yet you can't actually describe maybe, how they're going to ruin it, you just assume that they're going to magically convert this forum into famine and destruction.
While it hasn't been said much, my disappoint here is the exclusive nature of the port to the Xbox, as other console ports ought to at least be considered eventually. Depending on how well this is received, it could be a good thing or a bust.
I've seen other PC games make the transition to console games, but it doesn't always work out so well in the end. Minecraft, however, is a very visual game and something that I do think will survive the port very well because of its nature and due to the fact that the controls for interacting with the game are simple enough that it doesn't have to be "reinvented" when transitioning from the PC to the console environment.
The concerns expressed about getting seduced by the dark side, aka Microsoft, are very much justified. Microsoft is a monster that sucks the very marrow out of any company they associate with and spits them out as yesterday's bad meal. At best, any negotiations made with Microsoft should be done with a team of very experienced intellectual property lawyers (aka ones you have hired, not that Microsoft has introduced you to) who read and re-read any contract offered with a fine tooth comb, and to make sure that you have a way to back out of the deal without losing too much if it goes sour. This is particularly true for any "exclusive license" deal.
I know some will flame on with this assertion, but the Xbox isn't really the hot platform Microsoft was hoping for. It does OK after a fashion and is certainly a game console to consider, but I can see the motivations on the part of Microsoft to get a game like Minecraft for their system. There are people who might just decide to buy the Xbox platform simply to play this game, and if that is the case, it is a win for both Microsoft and Mojang. Still, I think in this case it helps Microsoft much more than Mojang and is potentially a one-sided deal here which is why I think people saying "NOOOOOOOO" are perhaps a bit more justified in their response even if they can't articulate their reasons for objecting here.
In terms of software development, the largest problems that I see is that the Xbox version and the PC side are going to be decoupled where they won't be the same version and certainly won't have the same capabilities. Console games have survived that issue, however, so it isn't as big of a deal as it would seem. Mainly, the wiki guys would have to detail differences between the Xbox version and the PC version, but they are doing that anyway with all of the various changes from one version to the next.
Far more sinister would be any impact upon the modding community this might bring. Mojang has been tolerant to even encouraging to the modding community and it has produced some amazing ideas that are not just debated but actually implemented. This is indeed one of the things that has drawn me to Minecraft in the first place, but then I have a sort of "hacker" mentality about games. If for some reason the association with Microsoft here encourages Notch and Mojang to distance themselves from the modding community or perhaps even to block/further obfuscate the software interface for mods because of "intellectual property concerns", that is most certainly going to kill off a major portion of the fan base for this game. Microsoft does not take kindly to independent developers and in particular hacker culture in general.
The famous letter from back elsewhen that Bill Gates wrote to the "computer community" because he felt too many people were pirating his version of BASIC is legendary, and clearly shows how little Microsoft cares for hackers. The attacks by Microsoft upon Linux and other "hacker groups" should show that the modding community certainly would not be appreciated by Microsoft and their minions.
As long as Mojong can not be tainted by this evil relationship, perhaps it would be ultimately useful. The cash is certainly going to be there and this could be an awesome opportunity in terms of introducing Minecraft to whole new groups of people that otherwise haven't been exposed to this game. On the other hand, it could be a horrible trap that could certainly destroy this game as we know it right now. In that regard, I can certainly understand why people are hostile to this potential release on the Xbox.
I'm quite happy that its coming out on Xbox. Kinect? eehhh... I hope I can still use a controller.

Don't get too excited. It's not like Microsoft owns Mojang or Minecraft, it's only a port. Also, Bethesda is trying to get Microsoft to accept mods into their upcoming Skyrim, so it's not out of the question that Microsoft may allow mods into it, and even if they didn't, who cares? You're on PC, so it doesn't affect you.
I'm a big console player for both 360 and PS3 during the day. My nights are set for Minecraft. Days when I don't work I spend my time gaming. Personally I am very glad to see MC hitting consoles. For it to be debut at E3 as a central focus means that it is a big enough title that the big name consoles want in on MC. Mad props for Notch for taking this game this far. As for whether or not it deserves to be exclusive, personally I like the netplay of the 360 over the PS3. This is for majority of the online gaming I do. Because of this, I am fully supporting MC for the 360.
One of the problems I see with it being cross-console is if netplay is included, I doubt Microsoft and Sony will want to play nice and allow them to be cross compatible. The benefit here is that Microsoft has no issues linking games on PC to console.
I know I for one, who already has purchased MC for PC will likely be repurchasing it for 360. I mean, the game is definitely appealing enough for me to spend a little extra on the game. As it would be a market game, I am supposing, it shouldn't be too expensive. What would you spend for a new game, like Infamous 2, or MW3 or Halo 4? The average cost of a new game is $60 US. For a game is addictive as MC, I have no problem spending more than what I have already for the game. It is well worth it.
I just hope we can port in custom maps. I'm not too concerned about mods, but I'd love to play some more creations that other people have come up with.
Being a gamer on the Xbox 360 and Minecraft I can safely say that all your fears are for naught. For you see, this community and the xbox are equally terrible. This community and the Xbox community are filled with whiny self-centered morons. So as you can see, there will be no conflict and you can all stop complaining.
I'm glad it's coming to XBOX, it'll help out a lot of people who have less powerful PC's.
Pardon me if I am mistaken, but doesn't the Xbox 360 have pretty terrible specs even when compared to those less powerful PCs? I wonder what the view distance would be on the 360....

Version 2.1 now updated for MC 1.6.2
A post to point out a typo LOL
On a side note wouldnt more income mean more capital to invest in game development?
Intelligent posts such as these will be missed after the Xbox 360 users join our community.
