Mainly the issue is the server should be handling ALL of the data changes, such as player position, interaction, and everything else not specifically GUI and graphics related. Then the client should only be handling data specifically needed to display the game and world correctly. Old SSP didn't do this properly, the new set-up does.
Why this is important to the API: Now that both SSP and SMP are esssentially the same, the API only needs Client-side plugins and Server-side plugins, and they will work in single player or multiplayer with no issues. The old system was too difficult for doing this.
So far all of the pre 1.3 snapshots have been great on my machines, especially the extreme FPS jump in the last couple. The problem I have is with the open to LAN option.
When I open a LAN game on laptop A, laptop B sees it right away but times out trying to connect.
Going the other direction, if B opens to LAN, A can't see it.
I've turned off all firewalls for testing and still am not able to connect the two.
I am not too familiar with networks but I am trying this via my wifi. Do they need to be connected via ethernet? and BTW i'm on win7.
Hopefully once 1.3 is released there will be more discussions on getting Minecraft LAN games working.
Please do tell me, where exactly do I say that your mods have anything to do with fixing bugs and 1.3 snapshots?
Because I am fairly sure I did not.
I merely suspect that you bash on the ssp/smp merger all the time because every time you make one of your repetitive posts
your banner gets free airtime
Ehhm, almost everyone uses banners. I can remove it, but what will change?
If it was my goal, I would appear in every thread, and not only whine about SSP-SMP merge, isn't it?

My UA on laptop: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux i686; rv:27.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/27.0 SeaMonkey/2.24 Lightning/2.9b1; I use Ubuntu 13.10 here.
And on desktop: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:20.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/20.0; Here I use openSUSE 12.2.
I'm pretty sure that the first guy's problem is that he is an idiot. It is most likely that it is a jar file and your computer just opens it with 7-zip because windows 7 makes no sense.
I TOLD it to open with 7-zip because it was a .zip and I need to transfer the files from the .zip to the .jar...
I'm a java programmer and I have my computer open .jar files with javaw.exe by default. My computer downloads a .zip. I don't know why.
Hey Mojang Team Excellent work on this update. But a noticeable bug while playing Single Player and having another person LAN connect to your game on 12W30E... While both players are in a boat and move in the same direction for about 100 blocks or so from land.. the other player disapears out of the boat, but the boat still moves perectly fine... This happened ever time we had a boat trip in the middle in the sea of no where.. but at soon as we jumped out of the boats onto land it was all good again...
I also noticed while this was happening for the third time, while my wife moved far ahead out of sight with her boat i saw her character just standing on top of the water not moving. but as i moved forward there was her boat and her invisible body... Its not a major bug but not something that you would want to see and want to have on multiplayer...
I didnt see this fixed in the prelease text so im not sure if you guys know it already. But if you like I can post Screenies to show you .
Thanks for reading.
Mining iron doesn't give you xp. Is that supposed to happen? Cause you get xp from coal.
No Iron and Gold ores does NOT give you Experience.
Only Coal, Redstone, Lapis Lazuli , and Diamonds where coal gives you ther least or none at times and diamonds the most
Im Still not sure about the emeralds as I havnt found any yet.
To gain Experience from gold and iron you have to smelt them, then once smelted once you pick up the ingots you gain experince
NTFS has had symlinks (or at least enough of an equivalent) since its inception. Until Windows 7, users did not have easy access to them, however with 3rd party tools I've made them as far back as XP. I don't recall what the command is in Win7, because I have an "ln" clone and use that.
Forcing texture packs on servers? thats ********, and the max enchantment level is lowered to 30?!?!?! ****
Nobody (except you) said anything about forcing texture packs on servers. You may be misinterpreting where servers can SUGGEST texture packs to clients. The client can refuse, and even ignore servers that do this.
Max enchantment level of 30 is not that big a deal, either plus or minus. Instead of spending 4 hours mob grinding and enchanting 38 picks until you get what you want, you now only spend 2.5 hours mob grinding to enchant those 38 picks until you get what you want. Wow, that's so overpowered.

Is the file you downloaded 4,698,478 bytes? Then it's the minecraft.jar. Some helpful* program along the way just figured you needed it named "zip" instead. Rename it. As a java programmer, that shouldn't be a problem for you.

During the other pre-releases (after they changed the texture of the emerald) I believe emeralds do give you xp when you mine them, I was only able to find 4 on 1 of my worlds but no nearby village.

This update added bugs. This is fact and I say it in this topic and in 12w26 (or 27?) one. That's all.
And mods don't fix that and are not updated to 1.3 or snapshots, so you're wrong again.

The textures aren't forced, they're only recommended.

Texture packs are not forced just "recommended for this server" and can be rejected by the end-user.

*EDIT: I ment 12W30E sorry.*
I guess i'll keep waiting for the full 1.3, and for mcpatcher to be updated.

Did you know I write Science Fiction? Well I do. Check it out at http://planetretcon.com/books/
Yes, this is supposed to happen. You get the XP when you smelt the iron in a furnace.
*edit* Ninja'd by another poster, please carry on.

Dude, stop complaining about nothing.
