Okay, I know many people have run into a similar problem of doing all the steps to install the update:
- take out the .jar file of 1.2.5 or any other version from the bin folder in .minecraft
- place the new Snapshot in its place
- open Minecraft and enjoy...
Well.... what the f**** happens when the Done Loading screen stays up for 20 minutes without a budge past 90%?? Excuse my language but I have had this happen to me multiple times and I have read that it has happened to more players than I care to count. If Jeb, Notch, or just someone with some good technical savvy and very good communication skills for the lesser aged population of Minecraft could solve this problem, I will be forever grateful to that person for allowing me to enjoy this game that was only just born almost a year ago(official release) further.

P.S. I deleted EVERYTHING from my old .minecraft and reinstalled it from minecraft.net and replaced the jar files....same 90% Error....... -.-
Finally someone i can agree with. i don't think it works for mac! Open and enjoy... or not. FAIL. i hope the full patch isn't identical. i'd have to reinstall 1.2.5, and not be able to play on servers until 1.4 FAIL!
I just wanna say this. It may sound harsh but IF YOU CANNOT get pre-release to work why not just wait less than a week for the official version to come out? It's much more advantageous as you probably can have mods.

Uhhhh Jeb made the new creative inventory to be convenient,which it is.Except for the fact that crafting tables,furnaces,etc. that belong in miscellaneous category .

I played the pre-release yesterday on a server, on a Mac, and SMP seems to be a little better. I have issues with placing logs, but I suppose it'll take some getting used to.
My main computer is my PC laptop and it lags bad in the pre-release, but I pretty much require Optifine to play anyway so I expected that. It works better than the latest snapshot did, or maybe that's just luck.
I love all the new features and blocks and can't wait for the official release so I can update my single player world.
will the piston fix for the xbox include mechanical fixes. ive noticed that when a sticky piston moves another sticky piston it leaves the object the first piston was holding behind( ive seen a few secret doors on the pc version that work but mine wont becuase of this). also they cant move treasure chests and cant open when an open piston is pushing them...

Don't you have to install the server.jar too? Also why can't i quote you and the other guy?
1) when it says you can 'publish worlds' over LAN, does this mean you can also play in them with your LAN partner, or do they just get a copy of your world?
2) can you publish worlds to players not on LAN, so you can just make your single-player world multiplayer with no extra fuss? If not, how does the new multiplayer system work?

When you publish the LAN server it is exactly the same as a local server. You can invite your friends to join and play with you, if theyre near you. It cant be like half way across the city. One day Mojang will probably make it into an actuall server, but right now they just did this for the mod API. Thats basically what 1.3 is for, getting ready for the mod api.
It wont be like a normal server. But what you have to do is either type /publish, or go to menu and click on 'Open to LAN' and then get your partner to click on multiplayer, then click on the LAN server, should be at the bottom of the other servers.
Unfortunately, this is an update I would have to say I'm not looking forward to. The fact that SMP and SSP have basically have been combined really frustrates me. Now, single player has the glitchy mobs as well. I don't think this solves anything, I think it just created more problems.
And, why does single player need the ability to have a LAN network for a world? It's "Single Player", if you want multiplayer upload your world to a server.

Random fire burning outside, presumably started by lightning but not being put out by the rain... makes me more than a bit nervous.
If you step into the fire it shouldn't damage you , at least that's how it acts in pre-1.3 multiplayer , i don't know about 1.3 smp
