Bug/intentional feature: Animals spawn in huge packs, when i loaded different worlds they all had like animal packs of 20~

Aw man, they reduced the xp orbs from furnaces? It was nice, but I guess it was too easy to get xp, even though I've been blowing through my coal supply just cooking up stuff...
12w30c Glitch? SSP; returning from the Nether to the normal world, I found myself exiting through a brand new portal about 25 blocks +/- from my already established portal. Anyone else have this problem? Did the attempt to fix portal placement create a new bug?
