of course the first version will have very few features, it will take much time to implement all that cool stuf that bukkit and the other api's already have. maybe the first version is serverside only, but in later versions they have no other alternative than making a client-api for all that visual stuff like custom block textures, hd textures and co
And in the meantime all mods that add blocks etc are illegal.
Every one of Pico's questions sounded like she rehearsed them 10 times, then read them off a prompter in her best put-on voice. There was nothing natural about the questions, and she didn't seem to be interested in the answers
I'm sure she's a nice girl, but she is totally unsuited for the kind of work she's doing. She was obviously hired because she's "cute" and the rara avis "girl gamer". Curse is counting on getting hits just because Pico's face is there.
What they really need is someone who's at least a Broadcasting student, who understands interviewing and who's capable of writing her own material. When your questions are your own and not fed to you, interest and a genuine response become automatic.
If she can't do that, they'd be better off just having Sach read the questions. He's obviously got the professional experience and tone needed to make anything interesting. He could be reading assembly instructions for a gas grill and you'd watch the whole thing.

"Don't know why you should feel that there's something to learn... it's just a game that you play."
I don't have much faith that the bukkit guys will do this right. Bukkit is 100% server side. Those guys have no experience with doing things from the client side. As cool as some bukkit mods are, none of them are even in the same ballpark as the premier modloader/forge mods, like IC2/BC/RP/EE/Forestry/etc.
Finally someone shares my opinion. Hiring the bukkit guys was a bad move, there were other teams more experienced for this type of work, like the Spout people or better yet MCP team. The fact that bukkit never did anything client side and their product was buggy speaks for itself.

That sach guy has one hell of a voice, and I would watch a video of him reading a instructions manual for whatever he wanted it to be. While that girl looked weird reading the questions because she didnt know them.
because Millenaire sucks... well its not terrible but it has a completely different feel than minecraft...
Jeb explained that one of the purposes of the villagers was to trade with them. One of the purposes of millienaire is that you trade with them. Another purpose of villagers is to protect them. That's very similar to millenaire as well. So how are the villagers like MC but Millenaire is not? Other than one is made by Jeb and the other is not. Are you sure you aren't thinking of another mod?
i feel as if none of this is really importaint right now
instead of making a ModAPI, why not just do what badspot did for Blockland and make an add on folder that only requires you to drop the mods into the folder and they work. No risk of incompatibility.
if that is totally impossible, at least in the next update remove the Meta-inf folder from minecraft.jar so we dont have to go through that step.

I would imagine one of the more important goals for having an "official" mod API is to make it easier for servers to detect and screen for mods on connection.
This means your server community can have a truly unique mod profile whose component mods work together seamlessly, and finally have a way to deny connections by "griefer" clients and individuals running unwanted mods such as X-ray or flyhack.
YES finally the mod API!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Installing mods will now probaly be even easy as installing texture packs! (i think)

i bet that would make all our lives easier.
and before you scream and yell at me, yes i play blockland,
Hey, im just throwing ideas out into the forum. sure, i dont understand how the modAPI works, but if minecraft works without the Meta-inf folder, then why include it if it just restricts minecraft from running mods? i believe that is going to happen with the update.
now, the only problem i see that modder will probably have to deal with is to recode their mods to work with modAPI, but im not a modder and barely know code
People, of you want villagers to build vilalges, forget it. Jeb said he doesn't like the idea and it vtakes the feel of Minecraft, Steve should build, not NPCs.
As much as I love jeb, he gives a terrible interview. Curse could have done a better job getting information out of him as well. This didn't reveal anything we didn't already know.
Speaking as a mod-developer I am relatively scared of what is coming to us. Getting the Mod-API has a potential of killing the current well-designed Community-APIs, like Modloader and MCP.
The development of a local server for running Singleplayer is from my point of view a terrible Idea either: Many great Mods were initially invented because of the easy client-side Programming. Now every modder with a new idea will have to invent a Client-Server Architecture even for the the very basic of his Mod.
No need to invent that, the basics are already implemented in the form of Plugin channels.
While this may make extra work for mod developers (sorry devs ), at least it will weed out all the poorly coded mods and force a new era or modding to begin. Let's give Mojang a chance to get it right and not be so afraid of change.

Curse PremiumFrom what I've heard, the first release will probably be similar to Bukkit.
IE very un-powerful and server-side only. I could be wrong though...
