Emerald is not rare. Every villager has it. Just sell something to them.
And I really hope they will reverse their decision, and keep the ore. With it being rare, which is perfect, and indeed a "nice find", the mining would have become a little more varied and exciting.
I'd actually find emerald ore more interesting than emerald blocks due to that reason. If I could choose between ores or blocks I'd choose the ore.
But obviously having both is the obvious choise that takes the game to the highest awesomeness level.

Looking forward to the news that the emerald WILL be put back in. It better had. It's the best new feature of the next update imo.
Should've just put it into the next version without testing it in public snapshot, now the silly people are going to ruin the next update.

The emerald blocks need to be in the game; I would say the same thing about something ruby-colored. These kind of blocks make excellent roofs. Also, I would like to see the re-texturing of the iron block, because iron should be pretty dark, and the addition of a silver-metallic block. It looks like there's lots of good stuff in the update, but once again, I feel the need to mention stairs for the other wood types, a lantern (not a 3 meter block, dammit), and the need for all solid color blocks to be available in regular and upside down 1/2 slabs and stairs.

Can't wait for emerald blocks, might end up modding my weekly snapshot
(And turning on creative to give myself blocks for a huge castle.)
For now, my diamond and gold castle will do.
I like the idea of having emerald blocks. However, I think they look uglier than diamond blocks. I'd push for a retexture than what's in the picture. :/
I am glad to hear that the ore is back in...I didn't want to have to save this snapshot , to take out later rainy days , look at the emerald ore blocks I uncovered and cry over what might have been lol
Now if they could only add a slight translucency to the emerald and diamond blocks , that would be awesome...

I don't think you've ever played terraria before. there's no emerald (or any crystal) tools in terraria.

The ore isn't that rare - just trade with the villagers and you will get plenty of it.
The emerald blocks look awesome, can't wait to use them!
Emerald ore is back. Now, I can wait for 1.3 update and start to mine for Emeralds!
