can someone tell them that if you stack a lot of mobs on eachother(by using a watercurrent and a drop in at one space for example) they start to glitch around and it looks like they are all over the place, its also causing a lot of "invisible" bumps where the server thinks you are colliding with a mob, even tho they are all located in the small shaft.
thats quite the issue for xp-farms where you collect a big amount of mobs, crush them and then onehit them with your fists.
1) Servers lag less then singleplayer so who ever says it'll lag is a imbasule and a ignoramus
2) Its an OPTION
3) People who never played multiplayer should not hate because they dont understand how it works, they make this stereotype that all servers have greifers and admins are corrupt, i've been to many servers and the admins, mods, ops been nice and had anti-griefing implemented in there server and if a admin become corrupt a resposible owner would ban him
4) Newbs should not Judge everyone especialy Veterains
Hey, you guys are lucky. At least you can play the snapshot... I "cant connect to the server," which means I can't even play single player worlds on the snapshot... Just saying, there is always somebody worse off than you.
Sorry Mojang, I know this is a bug reporting thread...
I am 90% for this.
I currently host a server via port-forwarding and have helped friends to host their own servers in the same fashion. It is somewhat difficult for anyone without any knowledge of ports and networks (like myself) to allow friends to play with them.
Most people try and fail or don't try to port forward at all and find a host who will provide server hosting for a small fee. That is all well and good, but for someone to pay $5 a month for a server used once a week for two people is outragous, The only time someone should PAY for any kind of server is when they have more people joining the server than their connection can keep up with. Ex: I can host 12 people with some lag, a good commercial host can host 150 people with slight lag.
I believe this is definantly a step in the right direction for Minecraft to allow players to invite friends into their worlds and experience the magic of friendship without paying a monthly fee or setting up a bunch of files and editing your ports and installing anti griefing plugins and whitelisting the server and setting up permissions and testing the server and troubleshooting why your friends can't connect and watching the youtube tutorial for the 7th time because you are clearly missing a step.... (You get my point. It is currently a lot of work getting a locally owned server.)
Unfortunantly, I cannot test to see how this will affect my ability to host a server as I currently do.
I would like to be able to have my server folder as it is currently (once bukkit updates) and be able to run the server in a command window with the option to join it via the client multiplayer option in the launcher as I currently do.
From what I can tell, this update will only change the way SSP works, by making SSP worlds run as SMP worlds in the background. As long as they are on your computer you will be able to connect without internet, if they are on another computer (your best friend Steve's for example) You will need some sort of connection to connect to them. This is the same as the current hosting of SMP servers where you can join via your own IP or "localhost" but will setup all of the portforwarding mumbojumbo in the background.
And another rambeling note, a locally running server (on your pc) will have the same lag (latency, ping, connection) as a single player world does currently. The only 'lag' one should experience in normal conditions would be how well your computer can run Minecraft.
PS. The only time I 'lag' (my PC cannot keep up) is when my PC is loading chuncks for the first time both in the SMP server and on my client simultaniously, Loading new chunks for other users on only the server is no problem.
Looking forward to the update. Hope it doen't get pushed down due to the overwhelming negative responce with almost no feedback on how they could improve it. Really guys, they want critiques, not a yes/no answer.
PSS. the only posts I have read in the first 3 pages against the update only said that they did not like the update with no elaboration as to WHY they did not like it specifically. I believe most of the neigh-sayers are simply scared that when the update comes out that it will change the fundamental workings of Minecraft and require that they change how they play and enjoy the game. This is a silly thought as the Minecraft team is too professional to make such a game crippling mistake. It will be the same Minecraft, you will just be able to join a friend without messing with files and stuff.
PSSS. Mod developers will not give up on updating mods because they cannot adapt to the new code, they will give up because they are to lazy to adapt to the new code. This will actually be a great step on the way to making mods we use that add content (EE, REDPOWER, ect.) avalible on a server instead of just a client. Developers gonna dev and fix their mods to be compatible with the new system just like they have done with older updates that broke and changed their mod. So look forward to more SMP compatible mods sometime in the future. (come on SMP Dinopocolypse mod!)
PSSSS. Don't take anything I say as truth and feel free to ask any questions conserning why I have the opinions I have. I made this accont souly to comment on this thread, but I will be able to find the messages page soon hopefully.

It's pretty clear from reading these comments that the majority of the posters don't understand what this snapshot is or does, or the reason for it. It would be much better if people who don't understand just refrained from commenting entirely because all this needless rage is not constructive and just makes the posters look like idiots.
For the people with computers that can't run Minecraft with full settings this will greatly increase lag and bugs. This will also make mods a lot harder to develop.

why not have 3 things: singleplayer, local multiplayer,non-local multiplayer

the name's misa! fox furry and kitsune all around! put my bricks in a wall and then i broke on through to the other side! i've been from here to there and many foreign lands, a very circular world, a "vortex world" if you wanna call it that!
So basically you can choose to make your singleplayer world a local server world? i don't know why people don't like this, it's a choice. and the bugfixes are needed <3

As a snapshot? Probably so.
After they release the highly polished and optimized version on 1.3? I put my bets on the opposite effect.
Also, do you have a source of this knowledge of how the future update is going to affect players or are you making assumptions? I just make assumptions, like the assumption that you are making assumptions.
alright, i know this is a snapshot, which means it is experimental, but i think they should change this whole crossover thing into a new option called quick server. you click on it, it will let u set up a server with most (or all) of the options that are available in the current server program (whitelist, mob toggle, difficulty, etc). after that, it brings you to the same world select screen that you find in single player. then u just load a world (or create a new one) just like you would in single player. this way, we still have the proper single player mode we all know and love, and the multiplayer fuctionality that is in this snapshot. this quick server is perfect if you and a few friends want to just play as it is a little easier to set up than the main server client. i guess the best way you can compare this to is the "host and play" option found in terraria. also, to make the server texture pack still function, in the texture pack menu, when u select a pack, you click on one of two buttons: assign to server and assign to player. i think this would work much better, we dont have to worry about smp bugs in singleplayer, or random people joining when we dont want them to, and it is great for those who like to play with friends but dont know how to set up the server console. also to make things even easier, an ingame whitelist editor could be included where you just enter names of people you want on it.
I think people need to stop and think how other people can just wander into your sever blindly without any knowledge of it beforehand because this is what everyone seems to think will happen in the next update.
For people that is worried about mods:Well, modders can use the prerelease to adapt before this becomes a full release, because the cross over it self and most of the code will stay intact(minus all the bug fixes, but that is why there is periods between releases and mod releases where there is few mods), and therefore, modders will be ready to update when this becomes real, and should only take the normal amount of time
For people that is worried about lag and bugs: GET OPTIFINE, AND MOJANG IS GONNA FIX IT
For people who are worried about privacy:Play offline
Also, i wish mojang would add the terraria item system(one user gets to transfer items across save files) Any yays 4 that?

Multiplayer is the future, how can anyone be against this? What ever minor cons you may have are trivial compared to the huge pros. I just hope it's easy on the people used to running servers, hope that model doesn't change too much.
Hey you bunch of whining dumb mother ****ers.. what you don`t seem to understand is that you`re not OBLIGATED to play multiplayer.. jesus ****ing christ i`ve seen people here crying about ``OH I DON`T WANNA ALWAYS PLAY WITH OTHER PEOPLEEEEWZZ``
jesus christ shut up you`re not supposed to always play with other people.. you aren`t understanding how this **** is gonna work.. you`ll be able to invite dudes to your world when they add the ****ing friends list.. you are going to be easily able to set up servers when they come up with another kind of network for hosting minecraft servers and you`ll be able to have a much much smoother minecraft experience where there are no bugs that are corrected in ssp and are still ****ed up in smp or the other way around.. so please you bunch of ****faces get your heads out of your asshole and stop whining about something you don`t even know about.. gee people just like to go with the flow right.. like ``I SAW SOMEONE SAY DIS IS BAAAD I`AM GOING TO SAY DAT DIS IS BAAD TOOOOO``
go **** yourselves
I think that the whole idea of having my friends on my single player world is cool. My only problem is that you can't pause single player. I think they should make it so that you can't pause if you have someone else on, but you can pause if it's just you.
