Ability to play singleplayer WHEN I SO CHOOSE... or invite friends to join my world WHEN I SO CHOOSE.
Personal preference ---- No pausing = good thing. Why? Because when I go exploring the world and run out of beds, or forgot to bring a bed, I just dig a hole, alt-tab out to watch youtube videos or porn, then come back and it's daytime again... without the game pausing everytime I alt-tab.
Most people here seem to be incapable of actually reading... how you manage to fire up Minecraft in the first place, let alone place a dirt block, is beyond me. Think I'm flaming?

The removal of Single Player is a catastrophic mistake that should be reversed immediately.
Single player is not being removed. If you think single player is being removed then you need to head back to grammar school cause there are some tremendous flaws in your reading ability. You still have singleplayer, in fact, your world can remain singleplayer without anyone entering it any point ever unless you specifically allow them to.

You still have singleplayer, it's up to YOU if you want your world to be multiplayer.
Let's read that again.
You still have singleplayer, it's up to YOU if you want your world to be multiplayer.
Now for those that really struggle with this, go say this to the mirror 100 times.
*I* still have singleplayer, it's up to *ME* if *I* want *MY* world to be multiplayer. *I* still have singleplayer, it's up to *ME* if *I* want *MY* world to be multiplayer. *I* still have singleplayer, it's up to *ME* if *I* want *MY* world to be multiplayer. *I* still have singleplayer, it's up to *ME* if *I* want *MY* world to be multiplayer. *I* still have singleplayer, it's up to *ME* if *I* want *MY* world to be multiplayer. ... .. .
I think this is actually a great idea, I don't mind waiting an extra five seconds for my world to load if I can invite friends without going through the hassle of port forwarding. However, they will have to remake Mods, like the complainers said. That's pretty much the only downside, and about pausing. What I think they should do is add code that detects if someone is on your world, and if there is, it won't pause, if it's just you, it will. And on the escape screen there could be an option that would just let you end the stream, or start it. OR another great idea is to implement Social Miner into Minecraft, and let people use that. And when you open your friend list, you can click their name, and the option of joining their game would come up, and if they ended the stream, the button would be a dark grey, meaning you can't join. Also, this will allow your hosted servers to run much faster, ANtVenom made a video on this... So guys, just stop yelling and give the Mojang team ideas, and not complaints. Because some people REALLY want this in the game, and if we just implement this, maybe Mojang will make MORE money...
Ok, this is just wrong. No one is going to update until there is one update that brings back singleplayer again. Nice going Mojang. This better not happen, or you actually might lose money.
No think about the possibilities in this before you even begin to act like you know what you are talking about!
its TERRIBLE
some people can barely run servers. i had a framerate of 20 - 90 normally now its 10 - 20. and no ability to pause the game, are you high
this also makes risugamis modloader invalid. and what about other mods. they will need to be re coded ant that will take forever.
this will destroy minecraft if the crossover goes ahead
This is a pure test update, if you are having frame-rate jumps like that there is probably something wrong with YOUR computer... I am willing to wait a little bit for the mods to be updated so in the future it will bring SMP modding, easier installation, and faster updating rather than having to wait for the next version to come out.
Absolutely hate how you can't pause and the people who make mods will have to 2x the time to make the mod Smp/Ssp now ;\ Why mojang?
If you can't pause, just disconnect. Besides, now modders will only have to make server mods, because single-player will be multi-player. The only problem I noticed with the game running like a server is that things like online/offline and the address are missing. My Minecraft seems to run better on the server. I like the way Mojang went about it.
NO SMP-SSP CROSSOVER! it totally ruins singleplayer for me!
The difference is not that noticeable. It just makes it so that when you play, it's on your own server. The server only runs when you are online. If you don't believe me, try out the snapshot.

This will only make it so SOME mods will need to be recoded. The ones that already have server versions will find it easy. This may make it harder for mods now, but later they will only need to make server mods, because single-player will run a server. Besides, if your framerate dropped that much, you really need to look at your computer. My performance actually INCREASED.

Are you kidding me? Have you even tried the snapshot? It makes Minecraft a lot better. Besides, the server does not run 24/7. It only runs when you are playing on it. Besides, if you want it to be single-player, use a whitelist. I love how this update makes it so you can have friends play on your server, but only when you are online. For all you who thing single-player is being removed, it is not. This is just like single-player, but friends can join you when you are online. This is definitely a step in the right direction.
The only problem I noticed with the game running like a server is that things like online/offline and the address are missing.
What is the point of showing it? Why make it more complicated?
The server is running local. The address to yourself is localhost (127.0.0.1)

For those that are sceptical of this update. Most of the games you play already are like this. For example. All Value games, call of duty, battlefield, the list goes on.
The point of this thread is to get the mp server running how sp does now so there will be nothing to complain about when it does release. As of now mp runs completely different to how sp when it shouldn't be the case.
This update has potential to fix all those mob through wall glitches, body floating in front of the cart, that everyone complains about.
Overall, I think it is safe for me to say, I do not like the crossover.
That being said, it would be grand if you could have the option of this SSP-SMP crossover.. make it so you have a choice and can fully disable the feature if wanted. Don't force people into it, but don't deny them of it either.

In the end, if they do this right and optimize server code correctly, there should be no difference between ssp now and ssp after the conversion for running on localhost with a bonus being smp will be a lot less buggy.
i think this is a good idea. i would love to have my friends play with me on my sinlge player worlds. BUT i think you should be able to activate and deactivate the mp with a command like "/mp off" or activate it with "/mp on". this would be dificult to code (i know because i know java and how mc works in single and multiplayer) but it would be worth it because you will be able to have more fun

The idea is alright, it has pros and cons, I would prefer if when you make a world you could choose when creating the world if you want it to be complete single player or the cross over of ssp and smp. This would stop those people from complaining and make everybody else happy.
NO SMP-SSP CROSSOVER! it totally ruins singleplayer for me!
How does it ruin singleplayer for you? you dont ahve to open your world to other you can keep it just to yourself...there not a button saying you must open your world for others...and at the moment only ppl connected to your ip can connect
After Notch left Mojang the Minecraft updates have gone to pot its like Dinner Bone and Jeb are just twating there heads against a keyboard in an effort to make Minecraft good and yes I know they have had some good ideas but I say that was just pot luck. So I say BRING BACK THE ALMIGHTY NOTCH TO LEAD THESE MORONS IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION!!!!!
Uh, yeah, just rage about something completely different.
Im not that fussed on the idea, but making singleplayer and multiplayer alike will make the game on a solid base rather then a different feel to play on multiplayer than singleplayer...
I got some questions
On our single play "server" type thing can we have more than 1 person playing on that singleplayer "server"?
will this change the way servers work and maybe how lag runs ect?
Mojang is doing great work on this conversion. I am glad they finally took Notch's idea from 2 years ago on the original format of the game and finishing it up. I also don't see how this is going to be harder for modders, just going to take the normal time as every update did. Also, this will allow for way better mods peoplez so lets shut up plox?

This is completely the right direction, updates no longer have to be coded for ssp and smp both and will be released faster and allow for smp modding
No think about the possibilities in this before you even begin to act like you know what you are talking about!
No actually you won't know the difference, it won't actually do anything noticable

- There are lighting glitches everywhere.
- My FPS has been cut nearly in half.
- The worlds are taking longer to generate/load.
Sorry, I don't like this format unless some very drastic changes can be made to improve it's quality.
SSP and SMP both had two working formulas. Don't change for the sake of change.
you don't HAVE to make it multiplayer, also it's only over LAN.
