Great, I was looking forward to the editable books. Pitty I can't download it, My Internet's capped.Everytime I download it it takes 1 sec and it download like 20kb, it just give's up half way through. Which is weird because I download a update for PS3 it took 5 hours to download, but if it's with a web browser it screws up.
The books will help a lot when your underground and find a lot of caves that run into each other. I have to put out sighs or wool so I can find my way back out if the caves get too large, but I think taking 2 or 3 books will help me back track much better.
For those who are already testing it out... Do the books have names like the maps or can you name them yourself?

Finally, writable books! Imagine the stories you will come across in SMP. If only they would make the bookshelves like GaurdTower said, "bookshelves should be like chest's", no longer would Admins have to explain what is on their server, just put a library at spawn and tell the player to read the book. You could write quick instructions on how to get started on the server and each town could have its own library. They should have added Bookshelf storage the same time they added writable books. At least I do not need the mod anymore.
"Wooden half slabs in four colors (and they act as wood instead of stone)"
I guess I wasn't familiar with this problem. What was it? Did wooden slabs make a stone sound when you walked on them? Or did it require a pick to break them?
They required picks to break them. I'm not sure about the sound.

This space for rent! if you wish to rent this space, please jump up and down, and then put a sticky-note on your screen. The sticky-note gremlin will then notify me of your request.
Be careful around peoples books, I'm guessing someone is gonna write down the book Cupcakes in one of them.
And being less stupid: If one was to write a book and give it to another person in their world, would it still say that person wrote the book? And as well as that, Does it HAVE to have our names on it? What about adventure maps and all that?
Edit: Probably shouldn't have mentioned Cupcakes in an official post.
No idea how I'm going to put writable books to work in SSP, they don't seem to hold any usefulness for it at the moment unless Jeb is putting in predesigned books in later for quests which was an old plan.

Curse PremiumSigns are editable on a line by line basis.
Books are editable on a page-by-page basis.
character-by-character editing would be much preferred, of course- for both signs and books.
I think the text will be stored in the 'data' folder of the world. This is also the place where the contents of maps are stored now.
