I knew about minecraft since it was alpha. But I didn't buy it. I wasn't even planning on buying the game. I found yogscast's channel on youtube and watched their minecraft adventure series. After about episode 7 I got this strange urge to go and buy minecraft.
I don't know about the yogscast causing players to "find out" about minecraft. But I do know that the yogscast caused players to "buy" minecraft
That's pretty much the way it happened for me as well. I sort of knew Minecraft before I saw the Yogscast, but their videos are what actually convinced me to buy it.
Why are people still complaining about Yogscast swearing about a kid? Nowhere did Notch say that. He said that they said they would (likely a misunderstood joke), NOT that they actually did it.

Yogscast is funny, but the people are major ass holes. They think they're "all that" but in reality their just two nerds with no life, who got lucky on youtube.

Well unfortunately Yuki, the games at 1.0.0 and npc villages still do nothing and I was expecting that "ending" to be some placeholder text and not actually in some finished product so when it comes to the Yogscast panel, I am 100% in favor of what they had to say.

Your logic is flawed, now let me address "why?", Not all schools, families and places are the same, yes many kids may have heard swear words and such, but the event was a "Family Friendly" event, since children are involved, one must have better judgement on their actions, The Yogscast, seem to not have control of their own judgement, since according to you, they swear alot on their videos, so that even deems the crew more guilty to their actions, the yogscast did it wrong. Honestly, they are "Nerds without a life" and that is sad, but you know what is even sadder? the people that watch their show. Though I'll admit that I have seen 1 or 2 videos from them, but I could never stay longer than a minute or two, honestly, I do not know how can people watch half the **** they give on the internet, primarily, Youtube.

So, this has caused a pretty big fan war, hasn't it? Now we can cleary see that Notch is angry, but what about the Yogscast? We dont know what has exactly happened, so people shouldnt really be making any assumptions. Well, its too late for that. Im seeing insults at Notch, insults at Yogscast, insults at each-other...which is really pathetic, because some people arguing are literally agreeing with each-other, but havent relized it yet. But I am bewildered at the fact that this happened in the first place. After all, both Notch and Yogscast seem to be reasonable, dont they? But there ARE alot of perspectives in this, so for the moment, im just gonna say its nobodys fault. Im trying not to blame Notch or Yogscast. So im not blaming anyone. And im gonna hope it stays that way.

To be on a fair side, I think Notch was emotional about what happened(he may be drunk) and therefore his rant but to publicly defame someone isn't something cool. But what he did was good because he probably took offence that Yogscast had a negative influence on the kid but then again, it could be a huge misunderstanding like what others in the thread have saud.
Yogscast on the other hand, no one knows whether what they said was true and furthermore opinion about them remains conflicting. There is also a need for people to understand British humour and what might be seen as offensive to some, isn't offensive to others. Culture differences is often a huge cause for misunderstanding.
Yogscast have yet to provide any official statement therefore give them time. Don't go speculate until yogscast have given their part of the story. Plus, not even Notch have released an official statement explaining his rash actions.
So give it a rest, wait and see on how this issue progress on.
I don't know if I can side with either of you. I like the Yogscast, they're funny on their videos. The fact that they talk behind people's backs is not really mature or proper, but think about it. That's the most common response for most people. To be mad at them for doing that would be a little hypocritical because I guarantee you, they aren't the only ones who've done this.
Notch (Markus Persson) also has a very valid reason for being angry. For people to be so... arrogant is an unacceptable behavior. The fact that they're so 'famous' doesn't account for as much publicity as presumed. They'd be responsible for AT THE MOST 10% of your Notch's players. It's a good game, so it doesn't NEED that kind of publicity.
For all we know, this could be an epic troll. Notch is an ultimatrollic man, so it'd be easy for him to pull something like this off in agreement with the Yogscast. Regardless, I don't like either sides of this dispute, real or not.

what i think is best to do in this situation is to ignore this argument and let Notch and Yogscast take care of it themself.
