We really dont know what happened. We havent heard both sides of the story. We should really be reserving judgment until after we hear both sides of the story.
I've had the pleasure and displeasure of working with both the Yogscast and with Lydia (pink haired chick) on some stuff with MineCon. The Yogscast were incredibly pleasant about everything, very easy to get along with and were more than understanding on any issue I ran into along the way. The opposite was the case with Mojang and Lydia. They were combative from the start of everything, unresponsive and just downright rude on every single thing I asked them. They acted like everyone should just be pleased to be able to talk to them and any email was treated like I punched someone's mother.
I have read Notch's twitter as well as the Yogscast's quick response/no response and none of us know exactly what the real issue is here so commenting on that is silly as of right now until we hear more from the Yogscast. From my personal dealings with everyone involved in this fight, it seems like Minecon was horribly managed, and was run by some prissy girl that thought because she was handed the keys to the conference she could be a jerk to everyone. I do know that the Yogscast were given absolutely no time to prepare and things were yanked around at the last second because of Lydia's inability to do her job properly.
Here is what I know for a fact about their dealings with each other: •The Yogscast were given absolutely no direction from Mojang on what was going on. They were only informed that they would have a panel (without having to pay the ridiculous fees involved ($1000+ for the most basic table)) about a month ago •Mojang changed everything on the Yogscast at the last possible second. They were never informed of some things until about a week before the conference and were straight up lied to about other important things •The Yogscast weren't informed of their panel time, autograph time or any scheduling until about 2-3 days before they had to fly out •The Yogscast were not allowed to livestream anything because those rights were sold to IGN
The entire conference was poorly managed. So if it was just a few curse words at the panel, then Notch has only himself to blame as the Yogscast weren't properly informed or given the time to edit anything from their video. I could see a member of the Yogscast jokingly saying that they should cross out Notch's name during the autograph session after an annoying 3 days, but even that would be a bit of a stretch. It all seems like Notch has second hand information and is using previous arguments with them along with Lydia as the truth when it might be distorted or just straight out lies. It all truly seems to be 1 girl trying to save her job by starting a little something when she couldnt manage anything around her and shouldn't have been in charge in the first place.
I also want to say that while Mojang and Notch created the conference as a way to show the fans some appreciation, you also have to keep in mind that they absolutely made money during this. Tickets were $100 per person, with approximately 5000 people showing up. They sold booths starting out at $1000 and those booths were only given 2 tickets to the conference (extra tickets at normal pricing). They sold the streaming rights to IGN and they wouldn't allow any other retailer to sell apparel at the conference (Jinx was there in force though). For anyone looking to advertise at the conference, prices were grossly inflated over any other conference I've ever seen or been to. I'd honestly estimate that they had a minimum of $1million come in from that and probably only spent $500k to actually do the event. If the Yogscast had to pay for their own flights (roughly 8 of them came in) and hotels, they spent around $15k to come to an event that made money and was a bigger draw because of them.
I know that Notch seems like a nice guy, but he is a businessman and he wants to make money, and he needs to act like a true businessman. Making any snide comments on Twitter only makes everyone look bad. He could have hurt the Yogscast's image or even his own based on second hand information when better management of the event would have fixed all the issues. Lets wait until we see the Yogscast's response before we bash either side for the issues Notch presented, but we should be raising questions of a very rich man making a ton of money off his fans for a game conference without providing a quality conference for both the fans and the presenters.
THIS. Pretty much clears the whole picture. The whole Minecon felt like an embarrassment. We must question HOW Yogscast were treated there, before judging any of their alleged actions. Now I understand why Yogscast had this REALLY WEIRD "interview" with Notch, in which THEY DIDN'T DISCUSSED A THING ABOUT MINECRAFT! That's because Notch already had a deal (with IGN?) not to give interviews about Minecraft! But Yogscast still decided to do this fake interview, probably not to disappoint the fans, where they had to pull various random topics not-about-about-minecraft out of their ass - that was really painful to watch. You could actually feel the ridiculousness of the whole situation, by how confused and edgy they looked.
Were they met with all due respect and professionalism? Were they expected to do Mojang bidding while not being paid for, as accusation of not "cooperating" seems to imply?
Probably they discussed whole this terrible management issue of Minecon in their group. Were Mojang eavesdropping on them? Then accuse of "talking behind their backs"?
"A bunch of nerd who don't know how to run a company"? Are they not?
Not paying for entertainers to come to the show? What is this if not greed?
I don't think that Yogscast were given all due respect by Mojarng, and they certainly do more than many on YT for Mincraft, even just by being most watched Minecraft show on YT. What is this if not a free advertisement?
Mojang sure knows how to **** people off, most probably thanks to that Lydia (who looked like a typical ***** by how she acted on Minecon). And Notch is out of touch with reality.
EDIT: And last accusation doesn't mean they said that to kid instead of to Notch himself.
i learned about minecraft through a friend that had minecraft since infdev. yogscast came around when it was in beta and ive helped at least 40 people purchase this game, so by no means is yogscast involved in this tree
Its really a shame that theres fighting going on. It is true that without people like the Yogscast or Captain Sparklez, Minecraft wouldnt be as popular as it is, so Notch cant really get away with saying that theyre just egotistical. Knowing that all the people there has to pay so much just to get panels or booths, it actually makes me wonder why they got away with the Minecon at all. If people hadnt been able to pay to get in, there would have been no attractions, and people wouldnt have bothered to go for very long.
While most peeple choose sides I'm not going to pick. Both Notch and yogscast are like idols to me and trying to pick one would be unfair given the fact that we don't know much. I believe this just happened because everyone was tired from the long days and the jet lag. Hopefully this will pass over and both sides will apologize regardless of what they have done. That being said, until then this is pretty upsetting to see. Here's hoping that this sort of thing doesn't happen in the future. After all, its the community working together that makes minecraft great and the last thing we need is in-fighting among us.
I agree wholeheartedly Lightnight. Both Yogscast and Notch are good people, and any fighting that took place between them shouldnt judge how they both are seen, at least not before we know all the facts. I know I wouldnt be playing minecraft if it wasnt for both sides in this fight, and thats true for a lot of people. Mant of the minecraft players I know started because of Yogscast, and they in turn got my started. If it wasnt for Yogscast and Notch both, as well as others, minecraft wouldnt be what it is today.
I also love how everyone is heralding Notch's 'class' in all of this, seemingly skipping the bit where he called them "total dicks" on Twitter. Because all classy people throw insults I heard in Year 7 to people who can't defend themselves, via a social network. Calling them 'divas' is fairly ironic, bearing in mind their panel consisted of about 40 minutes of them praising the minecraft community and promoting others.
than he did - you can listen for yourself :smile.gif:
As was already said, Notch acted really immature and insecure. And with his decision to bring this **** out to public hurt the Minecraft community. He really shot himself in the leg, maybe even both legs. Because if the all juicy details would come out it would be bad for Mojang image. **** like this should be dealt behind closed doors.
It's typical how people always immediately pick sides and go to war.
And it's even more typical how an angry Notch fan boy greeted the Yogscast at Gatwick airport and hurled an IRL tirade of a use at them (source: Totalbiscuit's twitter).
Good job, Notch. Your unprofessional dealings with this... "situation" has now got your pathetic minions hurling abuse at a couple of guys who post videos on Youtube. And all because... what... they dropped a few F-Bombs?
Have you never seen a Yogscast?
Public blogs about masturbation... fine. Jokes about masturbation and screwing someone's mother during an interview... fine. The word "****"... oh snap, best send the boys round to break some metaphorical kneecaps.

I love how almost everyone is automatically siding with Notch, even though we dont know all the facts. Why does it seem that the side who gets the first punch in is the side everyone roots for, no matter who is right or who is wrong?
Well Notch.. I doubt you are telling the trouth. I realy doubt this bad roumors about Simon and Lewis. Hope this was a misunderstanding. Dave! Yognaught siging out.

I hope this stops between both sides, this is upsetting.
