I'll be honest, they're known. But they certainly aren't what made it popular. It was by word of mouth and the game itself that made Minecraft so popular. Let's look at it a little bit:
One person buys Minecraft and really enjoys it! They upload a video to YouTube, or tell their friends what they built, or how the game goes (i.e. how you can do practically whatever you want and create the world around you). Those friends/viewers see how cool it is/can be, and get it for themselves. Shortly after that, they tell their friends, and then you have a chain of the repeating system over and over, resulting in a spread of excitement and enjoyment of the game, not unlike the spread of the Plague. If someone is to upload a video of themselves and their friends playing online, that would also be a major selling point (it's how I found out).
In truth, no one person or group is responsible for the popularity of the game. If there is/was, it would be the team of Mojang, for creating and developing such a popular game. We all would have found out about it, one way or another, regardless of whoever got it and played it. Had Minecraft not been as exciting and the way it was during the Beta testing, I can guarantee that it would be another indie game that wouldn't have had its own convention, or such a big release, or any of the stuff it has now. Nor would it have gone through as many phases as it did to get it near spotless.
If it is just a big "troll" post, then we all seriously need to get over ourselves. It's typical drama, and the world is filled with it. </rant>
Ok guys honestly i do not think it is fair to take sides UNTIL we have heard yogcast's side, and as it says in the post they look pretty friendly in the interview so it WAS probely just a misundestanding both and i personally love both mojang and yogcast so this does shock me.
Although it's not quite surprising to me, that is totally nuts. Whatever happens, this dispute better gets put to a stop or both parties will be in lose-lose situation.

this all seems a little trivial if you ask me. surely Notch and the Yogscast have bigger fish to fry instead of worrying about this. sure yogscast do deserve some recognition for bringing minecraft into the spotlight but defo not all of it :s and if this is only to do with giving them some credit then why the hell not? it will stop all this stupid arguing and while ur at it go ahead and give captain sparklez some too

If idiots could fly, this place would be an airport.
Yogscast would be nothing without Notch, or Mojang.
I definitely agree. Think where they would be without Minecraft! If they had not gotten their hands on Minecraft when they did, I'd be surprised if they had 1,000 subs, let alone the 1.1 minllion they have now. I'm not saying this because I'm a Notch fanboy; I have equal positive and negative emotions toward both parties.

They [yogscast] haven't said anything about the matter yet. So before people start pointing fingers and calling each other names like a bunch of kindergartners, we need to see some proof.
What's hypocritical is that we're all just a ton of nerds.
And it is a fact that Yogscast did have a big part in the rise of popularity of Minecraft, for the record.
I don't like Notch. He really doesn't know how to run a company.
Maybe Notch doesn't know how to run a company because he never did and doesn't now? Carl Manneh runs the company, so if you want to accuse somebody about being a bad CEO of Mojang, accuse the actual CEO of Mojang, not the founder.
I'm not sure about you, but I'm quite certain that I knew every bad word there was before I was 10 year old.
And if I was to watch a group who tend to swear, probably not on purpose its just in their language really.. I wouldn't actually be surprised that they threw out a **** now and then.
For EVERY damn parent out there; Even if you spell f-u-c-k and think your kids don't know what you're talking about, just like s,e,x.... you are idiots. Kids know quite a but, I assure you about that.
IF someone get mental problems of someone swearing.... I feel bad for those people.
In the end, I'm not gonna take sides here, seems like one person says one thing, the other ones says another, its just Linux / Windows wars.... people say crap without having any ****ing clue what the whole thing is about.
Sorry not to use "the F-bomb censor tag", but lets face it.. everyone knows what the word means.
I bet 10 year old kids from indonesia would know the meaning of it.. its like something you get borned into or sumthing.
In the end, I'll wait for yogscast's v-log or w/e to actually make a decision whom to trust.
If this whole thing is about a single f-bomb... god sakes, they are known for their swearing, IT IS TO BE EXPECTED.
Its like if Bieber showed up, all along all those screaming fans and such, you bet someone would either throw a shoe, or mention a incident about him getting thrown a shoe at him.
Sorry for not going "OMG Notch / yogscast suck, I'm never gonna listen to them again ZOMG!!"!"!"!"
But thats just not my cup of tea.... (Not English, nor a American for that matter) but I just like that phrase.
If anyone get mental problems because of my swearing in this post, I might feel bad about it, but in the end, its more likely that you pretend to be getting mental problems to get your will done.
Oh well, time to play minecraft & listening to yogpod.
ahh shut up what d'you know about it? no nes heard there side yet. just shut up till you hear the full story. no one likes a hater when the full story aint been explained. everyone just shut up untill this is resolved.
Wow... Hopefully this is just a little misunderstanding or some kind of tiff. I really like yogscast but if this is true this is kind of sad... Maybe they were just kidding? Yogscast is pretty sarcastic.
I think my favorite part of this thread so far has to be that the people who are calling Yogscast fans idiots/children and are saying that anyone who defends them is just a fanboy, are the same people who are turning around and praising Notch and believing that every word on his twitter is true.
For the love of whatever nonspecific deity you might or might not believe in, where is the EVIDENCE that anything on Notch's twitter is true?
This is why it would be best for both Notch and anyone tempted to take sides to wait until we know more conclusively what the creeper-spit is going on.
If it was a misunderstanding or Notch is trolling, then he and anyone who supported his side look really asinine when all is said and done.
Vice-versa if it turns out that this is the Yogstcast's fault.
I'd like to believe it was a misunderstanding, but if nothing else everyone should be as diplomatic as if it were unless its proven it wasn't.

Words of wisdom. Only they know what really happened.
