I have a couple of questions about this argument. Where did Notch get this info? Is this a joke sort of like the inappropriate joke Notch said once? I also saw the Notch interview on Youtube, and they seem like nothing is wrong. Is this a misunderstanding? Did the Yogscast really do that to Notch's signature? Are both side acted like douches right now? Yes, both sides are acting like douches right now. So I'm really not taking sides.
The people who are taking sides already are frankly being idiots. You don't take sides in an argument without hearing both views of the situation first, which is exactly what half the posts in this topic are and will be.
I'm probably biased in my view of the situation, given that i did in fact learn about Minecraft through the Yogscast and purchased it thanks to their videos. But here are my honest thoughts on the situation (assuming anyone cares);
Its unfair to assume that just because you dislike their videos or haven't heard of them that the Yogscast is not a major contributing factor to Minecraft's success. Their Youtube channel has almost 1.2 million subscribers, and their first Survival Island video has over 4.5 million views. They definitely have an influence and a place in the success of the game to this point.
That said, if they are truly acting in the perceived way as Notch is tweeting, then it is extremely uncharacteristic of the two by what we see on their many videos. They're generally both well mannered and cracking jokes constantly; british humor is a thing that isn't always inherently obvious, but i very much doubt that what they said to the kid was meant to be taken as an insult by Notch. As well, if the kid (despite age) was asking for the Yogscast to sign something for him, then its most likely that he has watched their videos, and they tend to swear quite often in those videos.
As someone who has grown up in America this past century I can tell you that you hear much worse things on the playground than the word "****". Hell, if he is playing Minecraft and reads these forums he sees much worse regardless.
As well, what amuses me is Notch's comment about how Minecraft is a community centered around sharing and caring. I'm sorry, does he play his own game? I can't remember the last time i visited these forums and read a topic that did not have multiple people arguing with one another, calling the OP an idiot/troll and generally NOT being caring people.
All in all, people need to calm down and be logical; of course, something that isn't likely to happen.
Edit: On a final note, if I was asked to travel across the world on a 24-hour trip to appear at a convention, damn right I would want some compensation for it. I don't know if you've noticed but airline travel isn't cheap.
Congratulations. You have a brain, unlike the people who are already taking sides when Yogscast never made an official statement on the matter.
30% people get whats going on and understand that its stupid to waste time on here but yet 90% of them actually do I love human minds.. Thanks for beeing part in a reasearch!
To be honest...I think this argument is a bunch of Bull Sh*t. I like Yogscast. They are a bunch of funny guys (and girl...). Personally, they are one of the few reasons I bought Minecraft. I sure hope that they handle this like MATURE ADULTS. I don't think they should get banned personally. Maybe Yogscast just had a misunderstanding. Like a lot of other people are saying, people shouldn't take sides already. We need to hear Yogscast side of the story.
Like someone else said, their interview was very...well there wasn't any signs of a rivalry.
I can draw any speculations until Yogscast releases a statement or if videos being to leak
For the past year know, Yogscast has been the advertising flagship for Minecraft (Sly, Nova, Seananners, etc aside). Though most of the people that subscribe to the Yogscast range from around 12-18 years old, they are still the majority of Mojang's customers.
Based off of the Yogscast's history, especially the incident when Lewis (almost) ruined Dreamhack by canceling during the deadline hour, it would seem that they are more 'smug' when it comes to Mojang. Mojang on the other hand, I have never really been displeased with. They just seem like a weak coalition of programmers trying to make a fun game. They even shrug off lawsuits with a challenge to settle it over a video game. The only time Mojang disappointed me was Notch's reaction to that recent fan letter concerning the game going in the wrong direction, mostly for mocking and calling the fan an idiot. Even though it was a poorly written letter, it drew up good points such as Notch's stubbornness to admitting wolves are a failure and the incorporating of mods into vanilla without due credit.
Overall, I cannot choose sides, at least not yet, but I can see this incident as only able to hurt the Yogscast and not vice-versa.
Alright, so let's say they did bring in sales, that doesn't give them the right to act like Notch is saying they did. I would also like to point out they make money from what they do, YouTube pays them, Notch doesn't have to pay **** to them nor should he, they likely wouldn't even be partnered if it wasn't for his game.
I can say I know anything about the dispute but based on their videos while quite amusing to watch they tend not to give off a very friendly vibe. Im guessing on them being fully to blame for the dispute.
this brought a tear to my eye and i may love yogscast but the way i found out about minecraft was hearing about the recreation of ocarina of time in minecraft when looking at chuggaaconroy's favorites
Simon and Lewis haven't told their side of the story, if it even refers to them rather than someone else in the Yogscast crew.
How old was this 'kid' that was supposedly f-bombed? Five, fifteen? If it had been me I'd have made the minimum age of the con 12 or 13 - I don't think there's a swear word on earth a teenager hasn't heard.
Also, Notch posted a masturbation joke on his blog, which is linked to extensively from the official site as a way of getting to hear straight from the creator. People in glass houses, etc.
Let's wait until more information comes to light. Either way, sort it out guys. Not cool.
People really are already getting sides, this is sad. Aren't fair arguments impartial? We must hear both sides of the story before anyone should take sides. For all we know, Notch could be trolling, we need actually evidence, not someone blabbering about what "supposedly" happened at Minecon.
Congratulations. You have a brain, unlike the people who are already taking sides when Yogscast never made an official statement on the matter.
Wow - that makes me sad :L

I can't wait to see the outcome.

(And no, not unsubbing from Yogscast)
It's actually the other way around. Yogscast is big because of Minecraft.
