Okay, I get why you would want to merge MP and SP, but think about what this will do to the PLAYERS! No more pausing the game! I, for one, don't like this idea at all. I know it means less work for you guys, but what about gameplay?
Everyone. The server is LOCALLY HOSTED. That means that With or Without an internet connection you can still play minecraft because the server is on your computer instead of being placed on the internet.
Jeb is not stupid. He will not be killing off the fanbase with some change like that.
I like the idea. Now me and a few friends can play a server together easily. From what I understand, this is going to allow us to easily and quickly make our SSP worlds SMP while we have the server running, and swap them back when it's not. Handy
Sooo... if I have a home server, running on my PC, (Which I do) can I invite friends onto my SSP world from only the same network or from other networks?
My old laptop is the only computer I can play Minecraft on.
I either have to get a new computer (which I can't due to monetary issues) or run 1.2.5 for the foreseeable future.
Sigh.
With any luck, yes. The sooner the cracked clients are rendered useless the better.
My, you (and you other lot) sure have your panties in a twist. I don't get the hatred for cracked users when even Notch encourages that. Sure, I bought Minecraft, but I play with pirates all the time. I'm not going to stop playing with the people I like - my friends - just 'cause they pirated the game.
And I'd prefer Mojang to focus on bigger issues instead of going on an anti-piracy rampage that won't end well, as we've all seen and know from the various current and past events in the theme.
(...) Maybe the game will evolve from here to have a global/regional lobbies/chat system. You can find and join friend's local servers. (...) Probably be complicated, but imagine a friend asking for some help taking on a cave system or the ender dragon and there are no hurdles to getting into his world. They make that seamless/easy and it will be like a whole new game.
If the game is to be hosted on a Mojang server, sure, but if it's being hosted in a player's PC, I don't think the combination of running client and server will fare well for some configurations. I'm also curious as to the effect of this combination for localhost one-player games as it is, since I don't typically use snapshots. If overall CPU and RAM usage are considerably heightened due to this change, then it's a bit ridiculous since SSP isn't supposed to be as intensive. I wonder if OptiFine will remain the life-saver of us all, even in this matter.
if you look there will probably a mod that will changes the clients back to normal for people who have bad pc's but any one who has got minecraft on a bad pc should just buy a better pc cuz minercaft is harder to run than a game like skyrim...
I don't consider that a good enough justification. Bad programming and a bad choice of language are no excuse. I can imagine someone recreating Minecraft in a better-suited language, with an optimized engine and less shenanigans and I'm pretty sure it would run much nicer. Just look at OptiFine - it isn't even a Minecraft rewrite and yet it does complete wonders.
LOL, this sounded like a good idea, but it was implemented horribly.
Now it's gonna be impossible to play Minecraft for me, unless some serious bug fixing happens.
I don't recommend using the snapshot since it's a very early development build. In fact, using snapshots in general should be kept only to bug-testing, since they're seldom stable enough to play without annoying bugs. There's a reason why the launcher doesn't update to snapshots.

Pausing the game shouldn't be a too difficult feature to re-add. Frankly at this point I'm more concerned about how mods will deal with the changes in code. Now that's a storm waiting to happen. Unless by some miracle the changes aren't that mod-breaking.
running a server from a client is extremely recourse demanding so any hope of optimizing for bad/old computers is now dead, also now this creates a huge problem for client stabilization because if your client crashes so dose your server, so crash bugs will be unacceptable
umm... lan ya that works if you have like 10 computers in your house connected, and you all live with in that area. honestly who dose though? and no, no one uses lan.
My three friends and I do all the time......just saying.
Jeb are you an idiot or what? Combining single player and multiplayer servers? NO.
Keep them seperate. I DO NOT want single player to be like a server, or have any chance of anyone else being on my network.. either way.. I do not want SP and SMP combined at all.. what the hell is wrong with you?
that's my only complaint.. that.. and still no sandstone stairs...
cocoa beans from jungle it may make sense but what happened to making some items really hard to get, it gives you a sense of achievement.
what valuables are unique to dungeons that are actually useful, saddle? useless.
Discs, diamonds, buckets and even some iron tools are pretty rare to find in dungeons/strongholds. Sure, you can make most of the items yourself, but it's rare to find them on their own. I don't really consider coca beans in dungeons a sense of an achievement since you can't really do a damn thing with them that can be useful. Where were the people when apples became random drops from trees?
I do not like what they have done to the single player worlds. I think you should be able to start a single player world normally, meaning only you, and then down the road switch the world to allow friends on. Or put in the option to create a TRUE single player world or create a single player server world thing that they now have created.
The thing I like most about Minecraft is all the options that are available to me.

Yes he is, and yes he will be. An always online game, is a terrible idea. I don't want to be REQUIRED to play online just to play Minecraft.. I DO NOT WANT my single player invaded by Server BS. Keep server garbage to multiplayer. leave single player, just that.. single player.. If I wanted a server.. I'd get one.

What would you do with a wooden tool and a furnace? I'd burn it.

D: D: D: But I liked the GET feature. It reminded me of /b/.
That's not a good reason. People should buy the game if they want to play online with other people.
That is the PERFECT answer!

Curse PremiumNot really, you already have to log in to the login server just to get past the launcher anyway, so no more additional load than it already has.
