This is pure speculation but, the way I see it all the changes to the client/server stuff they are working on probably needs to be done before the MOD API could be finished. Who knows what work they have done but I wouldn't be surprised if they realized the client/server relationship is a problem going forward for general MC dev, as well as the mod API.
Again, pure speculation but still.
There have been several tweets in the last week from a couple people at Mojang in regards to the API. From what it sounds like, 1.3 is a long ways off, and the API (which they are really working for) may even be pushed to 1.4... maybe. We'll see how things progress.
I'm amazed that nobody has mentioned wooden tools working as furnace fuel yet. Finally a use for that wooden pickaxe after you've used it to mine 3 stone!
I forgot to mention somehing. If they start making single player worlds LAN compatible, atleast make it toggable when you first create the world. Like if I just want to play single player old fashioned, no connecting to servers, just loading a world and playing by myself, pretty much how it is in 1.2.5, I can choose this if i wanted. Say, I wanted to use LAN on a seperate world, I can have this feature turned on when creating the owlrd and can have this new LAN fiasco on single player.
It's not a bad idea to implement, Im just hope it's not forced. If it is, I'll be staying on 1.2.5
I'm not sure I understand people's logic when they say that this will introduce lag in single player games. If both the server and client are running on the same machine there should be zero lag. Even if they are on two separate machines on the same lan there should be no lag. Think before you speak people. Not convinced? Open a command window and type: ping localhost and see what the response time is.
i found out what the "Command" option in the options menu does it makes it so if you want to type a command without clicking the talk/chat button all you do is hit "/" by default or if you make it "u" it will make it so if you click u if will open the chat with a automatic "/" so you can quickly type a command
I found a bug.

Jeb wants to get rid of Singleplayer. BAD IDEA... This could be the death of minecraft if people cannot play off line or play single w/o a server file!!! What was he smoking????? WTF do you need a server jar for single player for.
Damn. I hate that. I really, really hope it's removed. Cookies are supposed to be trophies of your dungeon conquering skills. What's next? Craftable saddles? Probably. Soon enough we will be able to craft mossy stone... unfortunately...
Oh no! What will we ever do!
Wait, why is this even bad?

Allocators are no longer the future, we have Hoppers now. I still like them, though.
Well, am really annoyed at mojang. The merging of smp and ssp doesn't annoy me it is just that Whenever I try to go on one of my worlds it says connection refused. Annoying.
Its better the old way, I know it is not final, but is retarded to run a server if you only use single player, more lag, more stupid bugs like mobs bugged inside walls, and more lag, no sounds, more lag, an old pc cant handle a server + a client (lucky I have 2 good pcs), lag, lag, AND MORE LAG!!!!
pd: videogames dont make you violent, LAG DOES! SO DONT MAKE ME KILL MINECRAFT!!!
if you look there will probably a mod that will changes the clients back to normal for people who have bad pc's but any one who has got minecraft on a bad pc should just buy a better pc cuz minercaft is harder to run than a game like skyrim...
LOL, this sounded like a good idea, but it was implemented horribly.
Now it's gonna be impossible to play Minecraft for me, unless some serious bug fixing happens.
I see this as being a very very bad move, forcing people to be online just to play single player? I think not.
What if we lose net due to a storm or something and want to play minecraft? we can't cause what they want happen is 1.3 single player to act as a server. And if that happens I see allot of people quiting and stop playing minecraft until they remove the single player server aspect. Cause if not I for one will leave the game and never return.
Cause to me if they add server side single player, they have made a very bad decision and will remain on the bottom list of bad games.
