The snap shot isn't working for me, it keeps telling me that it can't access the server with this snapshot and to go download it and put the jar in the folder.... but I'm not trying to connect to any server. I do what it says to do anyway and it still doesn't help anything.
When you downloaded the snapshot, there should have been two folders in it. Server, and bin. Drag the server folder into your .minecraft folder then hit okay on MC. Hope I helped And I think thats what it is.. Tell me if it works now. If it still doesnt work, then uhh try downloading it again maybe...Thats for PC btw

Snapshot strangeness
XD thats hilarious. So strange... Ive had a couple weird things like that happen to me too in this snapshot, like the world swallowed me up and I fell in the void XD
I found a new Feature that i have not seen mentioned here yet.
When you generate a new world with the options "Bonus Chest" ON, then there are Torches next to the bonus chest now. The SeedI used was "minecraft" (without the quotes).
D: I am having trouble playing it because I have splotchy internet...
As far as I can tell you only need to be online for the initial verification. After the account's been verified you can play any singleplayer map without additional verification.

I tried that just now, I tried with both files from the bin and server folders from the download and I've tried both files on their own. It either doesn't load, or it does then I get the same error.
Really overall I like this update. Nice to see the team continuing with simplifying the code. My frame has actually increased significantly between 12w17a and 12w19a. Since its a localhost all the mobs I've encountered have acted normal, and new chunks have loaded without any significant lag (outside of initial spawn, but that's to be expected). Even the creepers. No spontaneous explosions or the like. And since when did the mobs get intelligent?
Also, cocoa. Now if only I could find a jungle biome in this large-biomes hardcore mode map...
I'm liking the large biomes and cocoa plants but I'm hating this server/client merger. Trying out single player I spawned in an extreem hills bio, the nearest other biomes being jungle and desert. I was getting all kinds of lag spikes. Couldn't even kill a creeper due to lag. After playing for maybe 30 minutes I got 'connection lost end of stream'. Really sucks. On a related note, I kept getting the lighting glitch where places would be so dark that hostile mobs would spawn even in daylight.
Mojang has heard my prayers! Now onto a the "eternal dark/night" mode and the ability to specifically control what mobs spawn.
I don't know about you or anyone else, but I think we need to have toggles to determine how large certain biomes can get. No desert or plains and large snow? Yes please! And also a toggle that determines noise factor for mountains. I want more awesome mountains!
In my opinion, the biomes are big enough. But it does give an advantage to survival, or not :/. Hopefully the next world type with be floating islands.
^All the more epic. (to mcdownie)Gives potential to finally enjoy a vacation on a self made island without looking at a mish-mash of different biomes off in the distance.
Larger biomes will definitely give me incentive to start playing again/ remake a world.
Finally larger biomes! I gave wanted this for freakin forever! Unfortunately my stash of cocoa beans is pretty much worthless now, but hey now cookies are realistic

Don't remove META-INF from the server/minecraft.jar (Also, you may have not added the server jar in the /server folder.)
As a note, you also have to have a Premium Account, servers authorize you.
Also, Jeb fixed swords and bows not enchanting :V

Also: Brohoof.
Internet is not used when playing single player other then the initial login.

Yeh sure
Texture pack i believe since i had diamond tool in my inven and they looked normal.

Edit: It be a pain to start in an ocean biome
