They need to add a better combat.For mobs and for the player.Combat is all about poking and its boring.And some animations for attacks (also animation for mobs)If they add attack speed that could be great.So they can add more weapons to the game.Maces are slower but stronger.Also more mobs more places to explore.NPCs are still useless.They should give quests and stuff.This game has a good potential.
I would really like a complete combat overhaul, the current system sucks and its exactly what you said. With a new combat system I think health would have to be redone too because even if they add more weapons there is just a limit to how much you can customize each according to how much hp they take. Imagine 6 different weapons all doing 3 damage or 6? same stats different skins?
I would like it if they didn't make quests at all, it would take time out of other areas for them to add or fix. The villagers could simply do some trading, ask for protection or simply coexist with the player. Villages could expand and improve by themselves without the need for player help and at the same time could fall into ruin and shrink back for other reasons.
The game does have potential and it is slowly coming out thanks to jeb and company.

What annoys me is that people complain about stuff thats optional, Some people want different things, Someone might want bonus chests and someone else doesn't There are two reasons not to complain,
1: Its optional! If you dont want it don't use it
2: Why complain anyways? its not really going to help just annoy people.

Maybe so players don't have to feel obligated to use a mod to make their work more convenient? Maybe for vanilla players who want to be able to play creative AND survival on the same map?
Questions:
1. Will it be possible to edit already created maps, like turning on the single-player commands for my already created "creative world"?
2. Will it be possible to convert a world from creative to survival?
I'm making a custom map (in creative) and such an option would make it easier to turn it into a "survival" world.
(Having to do it through the "server options" is unnecessarily complicated and, to me, the "lack" of such and option kind of ruins the purpose of "creative worlds")
What is Demo Mode ? For non premium user :S i'm starting to hate this update, i thought they are going to add new mob or monster etc.....
And you can always turn the cheat off.......
Are the wolf/cat bugs fixed? (follow when should be sitting, stand and no longer follow nor sit, teleport to you randomly even when you are far)
Have blocks stopped being transparent from time to time? (rare but annoying)
Have the light issues in nether where far-away lava doesn't light up properly, and some torches in villages/mines also don't light up the surroundings (easily verifiable and annoying)?
Have they finally added the ubber-simple-to-do half-slabs and stairs with the different wood textures? (waiting this to continue work on my wood castle)
Did they review the villager spawn system or we still need 100 doors to get a villager?
Did they review the first iron golen spawn system or we still get the village ruined on the first night by zombies because iron golens only spawn once your village is freaking huge (which will never happen since zombies will kill them first) - which conversely means your village is a big farm of doors
Or are they just ADDING new bugs and as it seems lots of cheating features? (now it will be extra-suspicious to see a large "legit" world if you can get items so easily as to not requiring mods)

For me this is like the ultimate cheater update. I dont like it
Not so much cheater, though that would be a moot point as anyone can mod the heck outta this game to cheat anytime they want. This is more to start testing and enabling functions of multiplayer administration so players can start inviting others into their single player worlds. The starting chest is also a good idea in situations where people are starting the game off and don;t have much direction to go. Were it not for let's play videos and some pre-emptive wiki reading I would have gotten lost and died of starvation and creepers my first night in the world. Besides... the chest contains nothing you couldn't get in your first 5 minutes of the game anyways. If it had iron or diamonds in it I would be concerned.
Is there a single player command for toggling rain/snow effects? Mostly what I would use this for is to turn rain off as it seems to be pointless weather effect particles and random annoying thunderstorm sound effects. The only use I know of is that snow biomes regenerate their snow layer, and the times I've heard thunderclaps deep underground have been too numerous to count.
I found a couple bugs and things with this snapshot. The first one is really kinda performance, I used to get at least 100 fps everywhere on SP with all graphics turned on high, now I barely get 70 and I'm getting lag spikes even though I used to not get them:( The second is if you spawn a door in with /give <username> 64, the door will spawn in with only the lower section, and stay that way until you place it and break it. It even only shows the bottom half of the door in the item bar thing:P Hopefully the lag spikes get fixed!

Those are the only chests, they're only intended to have starter items for survival.
