this may be a stupid question but when you guys say survival mode is that like the current system in Multiplayer or Single Player? Cause like I don't see any place within the folders or in the title screen that says survival mode.
Either way I'm curious to see how 1.8 update looks like. With all the new performance tweaks to the GUI and the quicker rendering system for snow and rain+ everything else it's bringing there might actually be a point to mining for gold if we can trade it for meat or something.

Survival and Creative (a.k.a Classic) is the only two modes in Minecraft at the moment. Creative however is not available for vanilla retail version until 1.8
Survival right now isn't survival you don't need to do anything to survive other then stay away from mobs.. Adventure adds something at least to make it feel like you have to try to survive which is food why folks are against it I have no clue.. but the people who do not like the "needing to survive" part can play creative everyone is happy or at least should.
when minecraft went from classic to survial the game changed compeletly and when from all about building to living what he means is that the game will no only be about surviving anymore and there will be more goals to get to
Adventure mode = Survival
just updated.. right now survival isn't survival its creative with mobs thats all
I thought only 2-3 types of food being added: chicken, steak and maybe lamb.
just two confirmed atm but food will be stack-able. So food shouldn't be an issue at all eating is part of surviving.. so food bar is logical
