i happy for the new mod api but i think for the next update you dont introduce any new ingame features. i think they should spend alot of time changing gameplay to make minecraft have less lag and more options (such as spouts skin-hat-face changer). i think they should also put in some sort of tier system/achievement style. have a recipe book that you can build and upgrade to suit the tier you happen in. (wood, stone, iron, diamond, nether, ect)
Also as a server owner i think you should add some multiplay features such as a new gui that plugins to edit.
(i do know that spout client and spout mods can do this but i dont want to have to make my server players have to get spout just to access new content)

Yeah. I've heard that MineCraft won't need mod loader any more and also no more servers to buy or download free and use the sum ports they started this update along time ago around when bukkit joined mojang and sthe servers would be kinda like the pocket edition multiplayer.I think it might be better cause i am sick and tired of the port problems and having to get them its jet bull crap. Yea so i am happy if they do that for the update 1.2.5 You might think it's going to be a small update BUT its HUGE!
What I would like to know, If mod developers are playing an important role in minecraft do you really think it's wise to release 1 update after the other, if you are lucky, which in most cases you are not these updates more often just breaks most of the code and we have to re-write a whole deal of the code, not to mention all the bugs that has to be dealt with the bugs on mods for 1.2.4 has not even been fixed yet in a lot of the mods heck we have lost more decent developers these past couple of months due to excatcly this same thing updates been released like sweeties. For that matter most of the popular mods like BuildCraft and IC2 has not even been updated to 1.2.4 yet so it's not just a matter of running your code through MCp and all is well it's bone breaking work each time with fixes.
I do appreciate all the attention minecraft gets in regards to updating it with new content, but there comes a time in just about every mod developers life where enough is enough and they stop updating and simply leave so I'm I the only one thinking that it's a bit unprofesional to release one update after the other escpecially when you game is also heavily dependant on mod developers.
I think there is a balance that should be kept in updates, each updates players have to wait for servers to update, mods to update, mods are dependant on each other so one has to wait for the other and in that same time players are still force to play on previous versions we stil have most players playing on 1.2.3 that hasn't updated yet because they waiting for the mods to be converted to 1.2.4, which is most likely not going to happen because they all going to sit back and wait for 1.2.5 or maybe 1.2.6 or 1.2.7
So in short I really think there should be a balance that needs to be maintained in regards to updates maybe I'm the only that feels like that, and maybe not I do not as a mod developer myself this really de motivates me a lot.
i agree with you 100%, 1.7.3 was the golden age of minecraft, because there was such a long wait between updates, servers worked awesome, there was tonnes of mods. and as much as the vanilla fanboys want to yell at people for hating updates. it does suck having to wait for servers to update constantly, the last 2 months have been really bad because your waiting, things are finally ready and another update comes out. i Really hope the Api fixes things. because servers are the best part of the game, and vanilla servers suck if your not an idiot griefer.
Do you honestly think the way it is now is any better? Go back to bed, and try getting out of it on the other side.
Better? Well I don't think the mod API will be any better than what we have now with Forge. What we have now works. I don't know what you expect from a mod API, but all I expect is having to rewrite over 250 classes and in the end have the same thing we have already have now or worse. Worse because the Mod API will most likely place a limit on what mods can do, a limit that does not currently exist. I won't be the least bit surprised if some of the biggest most complex mods never support the Mod API.
They are updating too fast making it hard for mods to keep up. Also, this seems major as there will be a snapshot. The 1.2.4 was a surprise, as it had many multiplayer bug fixes and only a few weeks later.
Despite that, I'm looking forward to this version.
None, I repeat none, of the perquisites for mods even begin updating until the official update comes out. No one works off snapshots, nor would I want them to. I'd rather be behind than spend all my time updating.
Even once the perquisites are updated its extremely tedious for us modders to setup a new dev environment and then we still have to fix any name or function changes.
Nor am I particularly looking forward to the shakeup the Mod API will cause. Switching to it will probably require me to rewrite half my code, and the other half probably won't work without modding the Mod API. I imagine a lot of modders will stop modding.
Jeb said that they wanted to make it as easy on modders as possible, don't freak out yet.
I just hope they'll eventually combine Minecraft with Steam, it's so user-friendly! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE it!
I distinctively remember reading somewhere on The Word of Notch that Minecraft would never be on steam. it just wouldn't work.
EDIT: It amazes me how many people have complaints about the Mod API. well, what has been requested by hundreds, if not thousands, of Minecraft players ever since the ability to mod Minecraft was first released? we asked for a Mod API, so were getting a Mod API, so why the glitch are you all complaining? How about all you complaining idiots out there go take a nice, long, drink of intelligence and wash off all the stupid.
Are you guys trying to promote update trolling with this headline?
Seriously, where did you get this idea that the 1.2.5 pre-release somehow helps modders prepare for the eventual release? I think I'm a fairly well known modder, and I can think of no way in which this allows me to prepare beyond adjusting my schedule to accommodate wasting several hours on the update once it's officially out.
It's a rather irresponsible statement IMO which I think will inevitably just raise community expectations that mods will somehow magically and instantly update to 1.2.5 once it's out, and up the already epic level of update-trolling that we modders are normally subjected to with each vanilla release.
I can hear it already: "Why isn't Better Than Wolves updated to 1.2.5 yet! You were given time to prepare!"
Why would it limit you in any way? And it would have big advances.
It will be in the official game, no modding requiered, and you dont need to wait for updates.
It will also open a lot of possibilities for servers because you dont need to wait for bukkit and (not sure bout this) plugins will have more possibilities because the client can connect with the server (spoutlike?)
It will limit us because to make changes to any part of the game NOT covered by the API will probably mean we couldn't use the API at all. And there will be many things not covered by the API, I promise that. Even Forge doesn't cover everything, but it is open source and anyone can submit changes to be reviewed and included, usually within a week. I somehow doubt that the official API will be as responsive as a open source API to the needs of the modder. In fact all I see is users begging for an API, not modders.
Yeah. I wish they would make it so there will be no need for mod updates each minecraft update. That would be just awesome
Can't wait to see what's new in 1.2.5, I hope they fixed the seed issue.
that's what the mod api is for. when that comes out you wont need to update your mods for every minecraft update.
I REALLY wish jeb would slow sown the updates, it has killed half of the servers i play on..... my poor ever dwindling server list... please for the love of god go back to having major updates every few months instead of this weekly crap. its like were back at the secret friday updates again. i remember when updates were exciting, now its just a bother, oh great waiting for bukkit again... hopefully the new api will fix this b4 it kills the communitly.....
If you're talking about the weekly prereleases, they're optional. Plus even the official updates aren't required. Maybe you should back up your .jar when updates come out, that's what i do
I WOULD NOT MAKE IT IF THEY DIDN'T RELEASE SNAPSHOTS!
And now we've got 1.2.5... are we having a repeat of buggy beta 1.6? If we are, then I would like the team to meet , , , and . These mobs think they know everything. But they know nothing.
Way to screw with modders, Mojang! Seriously, we just started updating stuff with 1.2.4. Don't be jerks. The snapshot doesn't help if you start releasing little mini-updates every couple of weeks. Means pointless busy work.
Also as a server owner i think you should add some multiplay features such as a new gui that plugins to edit.

Now if only i could make mods

Thank god these forums have a +1 button.
