Mojang must have made this a huge update because my framereate (which is usually around 31 in 1.1) went to 1 FRAME PER FRICKING SECOND. Mojang better fix this because i thought i had a fair computer in 1.1 but now it can't even run!!
They DID mention that F3 mode uses a LOT more resources than before. Idk if that's the issue. Try making sure all your drivers etc are up to date. =/ If they are, wait for a fix I guess.

"Never underestimate the predictability of human stupidity"
Love the update guys, keep up the excellent work! The only thing I disagree with & I ask that you remove, is STOP THE DAMN NOISE OF HOSTILE NPC'S BANGING ON THE WALLS OF BUILDINGS!!! I know you don't give a rats ass whether I am going to continue playing minecraft or not, but seriously guys. I had to turn my headset volume down to 10% just to calm the building blood pressure & the beginning of the headache that was about to occur. I understand that were trying to make mine craft fun, semi-realistic, adventurous, scary, etc. but I'm only on my second night in this new world I generated for 1.2.2 & I am DREADING when I see that block-looking sun start to set because I know I'll get constantly barraged with the damn pounding sounds. It wouldn't be so bad if it only happened occasionally or was quite a bit less repetitious. Ah, the sun just came up I'm done ranting & continuing setting up mine-cart tracks Sorry for the rant folks, & thank you for hearing me out. I never ***** about things unless its overly obnoxious and annoying ;D
-Jeb says it may crash if you stand on a structure at the 256 limit.. didn't have that problem in the last snapshot - can someone confirm or was this a bug fix not a bug?
-The special loot is fantastic! I getting a nice shiny helmet to drop is so much more gratifying then just some xp and rotten flesh. XD
-I REALLY like the villages now, the way zombies probe for a way in is very cool. Not sure why they are breeding so slowly tho - 15 houses and many days later I still only have 8 or so.
I hope they keep going on the villages, the update is great but I'd like to see more personality from them in the future - perhaps some interesting AI that keeps them fresh, lifelike and something you feel compelled to protect.

An easy fix to the zombies banging the doors down, which I will agree the sound gets annoying over a long period of time, is to drop a block in front of the door. Zombies will not be able to reach the door to make the banging noise. Once you can make pistons you can just make a simple device to push a block up in front of the door from the inside via a switch.
Hope this helps.

I just did a quick test with 1.2.3, and it seems to fix the "Corrupted Shadows" as someone put it. Simply walking near them will update the lighting (it may take a few seconds) or just drop a lightsource down for it to update. I tested in my creative flatlands the same one I posted a screenshot on a few pages back.

help! my 1.1 mods just black screen when i apply them to the new 1.2 update, how do i get the new Mod API to work with my old mods, without downgrading minecraft.jar or waiting for modders to update? isn't that the point of the new modding API?
Modding API? What modding API?
There is no modding API. Not yet, at least.

I'm curious as to how Minecraft's performance will be with the new update. Granted I use Optifine, so it's irrelevant as long as the mod keeps being updated, but still. I remember when the game used to be mostly acceptable performance-wise. Last time I tried it without Opti, the massive lag I experienced rendered it unplayable.
It amazes me how I can use a mod to have equal (well, better, actually) graphics and extra features and run the game at near-perfect speed with an HD texture pack, while without that mod, even at native resolution everything fails miserably. Frankly I don't think it's good for a company that a mod-maker has to clean up its mess, especially since they appear to be utterly ignoring the question.
Don't expect me to purchase any expansions packs or extra content if you endeavour that way. I do love Minecraft, but I'm a tad disappointed in the company's mindsets and apparent priorities. Oh, well, such is the fate of the gaming industry.

I've taken to making somewhat useless doors (where they can't really be seen) in my new survival world where I'm attempting to create a massive, thriving city from the ground up.
Two things one is confirmed to have happened before and the other seems to be new. The confirmed and most obvious one is an outdated sever. The second, the one that I am currently dealing with is that it seems to default to a whitelisted mode and the update for some reason deleted all statisitics, so it may have deleted all of the data files that could have been used to keep track of who has been on before.

Also: Due to popular demand, Seed info is now "0" in SMP to avoid people recreating the world in SSP *facepalm*
Which whiney lunkheads thought this was a good idea? Thanks alot you dumb mofo's we can't share seeds anymore.
You h ave to stand perfectly still. you can't even turn,Jeb tweeted that 1.2.3 is being uploaded.

I have no idea why I do this.

Villagers spawn babies (what I'm now calling Testifikids) based on the number of wooden doors in an area and it's around one villager for every three doors (see: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Villager#Mating_and_Population).

It's too bad that my mods, like SPC were going to be gone. Well, it's a small price to pay...
