More world height , and hopefully depth...jungles , cats , lanterns , way more block ID's
1.2 will be Legend , wait for it...DARY!
This is awesome news all around . Also , the main reason I haven't resumed my real world building since 1.0 . With jungles and all that , in case I need to start a new world .Just been messing around with jamming as many mods as possible into my game before it explodes until 1.2
Notch started this game and did an amazing job . But , it looks like handing it over to Jeb was the best idea all around . Great work!

One big problem for Modders in this update and before the API: Many mods use IDs from the currently earliest open Ids that extend for like 9 or 10 pages in Not Enough Items with the Technic Modpack, which has a multiplayer version. This ID change will *$&! them royally.
It's funny how people are saying this will cause problems for modders. The map format is being changed to a more mod-welcoming format. And when I saw the block ID improvement, I almost screamed with joy. I cannot express my happiness towards what's to come in 1.2. Amazing job, Jeb. I wish this would just be the release of 1.2 so I wouldn't have to wait for each snapshot to come out until the modding API/tools began updating. I've been refraining from adding a block to my WIP mod because of the limit, so now I know. :biggrin.gif:
Lanterns will be in this snapshot too, check Jeb's Twitter. I'm not lying.
I see no reference to lanterns. The closest thing I see is a lamp that turns off/on with redstone. Like redstone torches only they turn on when they have power and off when they don't, and (I assume) are brighter.
So, I'm going to assume the block ID increase comes with the required secondary features of extra (or infinite like Forge) terrain.pngs and items.pngs?

Adding in other people's mods, or parts of them, isn't really progress... Especially when you don't go all the way with it. Don't get me wrong, it's cool that it's doubling, but it's been proven that it can go MUCH higher in scope. Combining the regular world, the Nether, and the End as a kind of outer space area (The moon = The End ?) would have been a much more worthwhile endeavor and made the build height a very epic scaled area. (The first thing that comes to mind is a space elevator to The End and a chasm rift that goes all the way down into the bowels of the Nether)
New world format!!! Bad time for MC edit to be discontinued!!! Lets see how many people do not backup this time and how many posts we get for "How do you downgrade???"
Now may I ask how the new world height will affect Existing worlds? Will the surface be at a higher level than 64? It would be interesting to see and funny if your old generated areas are in a huge hole in the ground... But IF this is true this could also allow for bigger and grander caves and huge caverns big enough to build a fortress in.
Yes, now we can finally have some INFINITELY HUGE man-made/natural mountains. (Possibly?)
On a side note: Wahere is our volcano boime promised with the Adventure Update? :/
Grrrr I hate living in America. It's nearly 5am and I really want to play the snapshot Jeb just uploaded like fifteen minutes ago D; This update might actually give me that extra incentive to play :biggrin.gif:
.. But for now, sleep >.> Got classes in the morning.

Which, incidentally, is awesome.
