Don't change the rules in the middle of the game - first you say everyone can sign up until december 19th and then you close sign ups 10 days earlier.
Now I can't sign up, despite the fact that I am seriously determined to take part in the competition, and many of those who signed successfuly will never even login to see their plot.
Right now I'm not sure if I'm angry or sad...
There is the weird ability to join any team without other team member approval. While I can't agree this is a good plan, you could always join a random team with 1-2 people on it (which is the vast majority of the 512).
Thanks for advice, but sadly I'm pretty sure it's just a glitch - it also would be really rude to join someone's team without permission and intrude their plot :-(
Perhaps is there someone who created the team, but is not going to take part in the contest - then with his permission I could sign up to his team before owner sign off and as result completly takeover the team.
By the way it's completly insane that we even have this conversation, it shows that contest organizers didn't properly prepared this event.
Oh, I fully agree with you. I find it slightly ridiculous that you're able to join without permission. Another thing we noticed, there's one team that has 39 people registered right now. Last I checked, 39 is more than 6.
I am Kharne from Multiplay. We are running this competition.
Due to an overwhelming response and signups our tournament system hit 512 teams and then went herp-a-derp and began assigning players to one team instead of denying more teams to be created. We are currently working on this issue and aim to have things ready for Monday (possibly later in the day/evening). We want to make the competition work for the players that enter it, so please be patient.
There is no point in signing up to a team that does not want you, because we have record of the first person to create the team, and they have the power to have you removed any time they wish. We have made a limit of 512 since we need server space and time to do the judging.
Good to hear these issues are being addressed!
Rather than the current setup of having to submit a support ticket to add people to your team (which is how I interpreted what the site says at least), would it be possible to allow people to ask to join your team, email you about it, and then let the team creator accept/deny? This would be much more user friendly.
The ticket system is basically like email - we have people monitoring them daily and they basically cycle over a 24 hour period and with email you are not guaranteed to be dealt with (if you emailed a specific person and they are off work that day then the email would not be seen until they return - tickets are a shared platform so somebody will see it).
Ah, I'm not sure if we're on the same page. What I was suggested was some sort of system where people could apply to team leaders to be put on a team, rather than having to contact them elsewhere.
I have full confidence that your ticket system is well watched!
EDIT: A few more questions about specifics.
[A] What are the plots going to be like? We've heard 100x100, but that could be varied. Will they be vanilla terrain? Flatgrass? Custom? If one of the last two, will we have the ability to request a certain height?
[B] Can we assume that the contest will be completely vanilla mechanics? As in, no special building-assistance tools? And, judged in default texture pack?
Christmas, not xmas wtf is that about? Cannot leave Christ out of Christmas considering it's origin...
off-topic: Xmas is an abbreviation of Christmas, the X comes from the greek letter chi, its used because its the first letter in the greek word Χριστός which translates to Christ(or at least that what i found on wikipedia, wikipedia also states that a common misconception is that "Xmas is a secular attempt to remove the religious traditions from Christmas by taking the christ out of Christmas") got bored so i googled Xmas found a wikipedia article and felt like posting an exposition
tl:dr its an abbreviation of Christ, not a removal
on-topic: the contest sounds more interesting to watch personally(something i think alot of the sign-ups probably intend to do instead of participate) and like a poster before me said i wasn't aware time did game reviews(though i don't live close enough to care nor read it anyways)
Ok, thanks for the response. I understand that when an overwhelming amount of people apply at once, it can cause problems. Believe me, Ive handled many contests.
