I love the idea of the cauldron a bit better but I don't think it really matters. 1.8 was a big update for biomes and monsters. I also like the new experience system and the player menu in 1.9, this update is going to add the bits and bobs that Minecraft was missing and this will improve Minecraft's adventure attidude. I love this new update and I can't wait for the next one. Hopefully Notch will add interactive NPCs and there will be some sort of questing system? I honestly don't know, and don't care. Just as long as Minecraft will continue to be fun and simple for the player. If Notch or Jeb or any coder reads this reply, I just wanted to say Minecraft will be a lot more fun if there where more animals (that are hostile like mobs) like bears, birds (other than chickens, ones that can acually fly), and maybe some ocean animals like dolphins or sharks. I would also like to say that there should be some more ores like bronze. You need stone to get bronze, and bronze to get iron. Those were just some things that I would like to suggest and say about Minecraft.
I don't mean to rain on your parade, but to be real, there is already a mod that adds basically all of those mobs. And, bronze is a combination of tin and copper ores in real life, so if notch was to add bronze to the game, that's 2 more ores if he wanted to be realistic about it, and a way to combine them, probably just crafting the ores together or something i don't know. but yea, just thought i'd say that! and i do like the idea of adding the bronze age to the game. Think about it. Sticks and stones = stone age, bronze age, iron age, steel age, and so on...and in Minecraft it ends at diamonds!! Bronze would sort of make it take longer to get to the final diamond tier tools though. You would have to take the time to go and find the copper/tin/bronze and make tools of that just to get the iron you already found, and then notch would have to revamp the world gen code again, to make diamonds in a smaller layer, because iron gets shoved down, because bronze needs room so that you don't find iron and bronze or before bronze stuff, because quite frankly that would be ridiculous!
To geniusboy67: *claps* Thank you for finally knocking some sense into these guys, honestly:
1. I do not get why people are complaining. If you don't want to use magic, then DON'T USE IT!!!!
Honestly I am new here, yet I have more common sense than quite a few people here!
2. I am sorry for shouting, but if you don't like it, don't use it.
My two cents.
Nice! The book sitting on the table gave me an idea! What if you could craft spellbooks by combining books with certain items, and then use those books to cast spells, like fireball, and there could be spells that cast the enchantments!

Hmm I wish it will not be useable in 1.9 since most users will abuse it baddly with hacking on survival severs. Since they are flying but I do like it and its a blaze rod with ghast tears this is how you make the stand. This sucks Its ok I guess I already know how to make it..

I've currently returning to these forums... after 2 years of despair...
Here I thought those corners meant diamonds were going to be used. Ender Pearls? Even better. (especially since they'll actually be slightly easier to acquire than diamonds, even if Endermen aren't all that common)
For those complaining about magic because of some moral compass, man, you're missing out on some good games (Kingdom Hearts, Medieval, and possibly soon, Minecraft) and movies. (various Disney movies, Lord of the Rings, etc. What? You thought I'd just say Harry Potter?) I'm not mad about magic being added. Adding magic, villages, structures, and finally, more stuff in the Nether, adds a lot of depth this game was lacking. Sprinkling on some more mobs/ animals and a biome or two won't add as much depth, as say.. structures, villages, and of course, magic. The best part is that you don't have to utilize it, as this is a sandbox game after all. Honestly, I don't think I'll really care for magic, beyond enchanting my weapons/ tools or whatever. (if they have stronger, more durable, or flame (or lightning)-inducing sword enchantments)
Hopefully, ghast tears won't just be used for magic. I'm actually hoping they can be some kind of means to make even stronger weapons and armor, or at the very least, a means to make stuff stronger.

"I don't plan to add a new dimension at the moment. It's just to performance heavy on servers, and the current dimensions need more attention before we start adding new ones." < Yeah, like biomes or actual varied terrain in the nether. Nether ruins didn't do the trick at all.
To all of you saying "it's not 1.10 it's 2.0" you're wrong. This isn't math, it's version numbers. 1.10 is Version 1 Revision 10. Minecraft 2.0 would be Version 2. Minecraft hasn't come that far yet.
On topic: This looks interesting but I'll have to see how it turns out before I form an opinion. It has just as much potential for disaster as success.
I agree with all the people who like cauldron more.
A stand may be needed for a lot of things, but to brew also potions with it... weird. How do you heat the liquid? I prefer the cauldron since it really is just the right tool for anything that you like to brew. The stand is just something that I don't understand. Maybe someone would like to share some information on how it should work?
Book upon a pedestal is absolutely genious. I'd change the pedestal a little. More brighter edges and not so bold ones. Maybe add a partial textures from the chest to replace the textures of the pedestal. Suits more on the looks to have something "wooden for the wooden" so to speak. Don't know about the random enchantments, but it sounds interesting. It may depend from enchantments recieved. :happy.gif:
Overal is that this update will be sweet.
The stand could work for just that a potion stand and/or a potion cooling stand. After brewing them you can place them on the stand to cool off and/or the stand would work as a type of chest for potions, holding 3 potions at a time.

The blaze rod looks like is yellow because it's always hot. And maybe the heat of the rod will brew the potions.
We like the cauldron! Please at less put the 2 in. It add a cool mechanic and a more complex potion making element. If you screw up on the first potion your left with less potion after or a water down version.
People in the vote seem to like the cauldron better, but all agreed the 2 could be there. Cauldron for making potion and stand for upgrading them. Like put potion on the stand and after a while they get better or worst.
@Mudkippers: I completely agree with you. Notch, what the hell are you doing? I really liked the direction Minecraft was going in up until 1.8, now this RPG stuff is going to completely damage the feel of Minecraft! Please, PLEASE don't ruin my favorite game!

He isn't ruining the game at all.. Most people like this magic and rpg stuff cause survival is a hard thing to be improved.. But there are basic rpg elements.. Magic, combat, npc's... You can disable villages in world creation and if you dont wanna use magic then just dont do it..Ignore it totally.. Most minecraft servers are rpg server cause Minecraft is really fun when roleplaying.. But since its a really basic game its not that much fun in survival because there is a limit to things you can do.. But when roleplaying as a character you choices reveal new stuff that why roleplaying is better for minecraft.. I would suggest you Terraria if you like survival.. Terraria has more details than Minecraft about survival..

I dont want to be negative, but how?
Notch dont tell that, he say only enchantments.
Look what happened to bosses, now they will be in 1.10 (confirmed by jeb) with this magic, but no bosses is a bit overpowered dont you think it?
Like, Kill a creeper with a fire echantment from 200 meters? WTF is way too easy.
with skills, i dont think they will be in 1.9, they have no talk about it.
ITs my opinion

Notch posted it on Reddit after someone suggested a red cloth.
i was expecting blaze rapiers or some sort of sword

Nevermind that PVP matches will probably end up as a "whohasthemostpotions" fight...
