Hmmm here's a few things I'm just guessing at but...
Enchantments come from "magic books" as notch says, but where do magic books come from? I'm guessing you can't make them, or it's at least very very hard to, but maybe you find them in the libraries of the Strongholds? It would give them a good reason to exist.
Enchantments are described as three tiered and random and, to quote notch:
How does enchanting work in Minecraft? Well, you open a magical book and pick a random spell, not quite sure knowing what it will do. MAGIC!
That sounds an awful lot like the sorts of procedural systems they have in roguelike games. Possibly what you'll have is a pool of possible effects and possible strengths of those effects, and the game will combine a few of these effects into random spells. This way the number of possible spells is practically limitless and you'll never get books with duplicates.
Am I the only one who isn't thrilled with the magical direction Minecraft is taking?
I wasn't all that excited about it myself at first, but honestly Minecraft never really had a direction before, and to me that gave the atmosphere of it a blank slate to start with.
Basically, I'm happy now Notch gave the game an identity instead of just leaving it as an open ended sandbox.
THIS IS AWESOME!!! Also if Notch is making a new use for books maybe he could also make it so they could be written to read like a sign. It would be a blessing for Adventure map makers.
I HAVE A SOLUTION! potion stands for "research" cauldrons work as they do now. BUT the potions don't have a tooltip. so then you go and place them in your potion stand and there is a time just like with an oven but with three slots that go one at a time. if you just put one potion in the timer goes by and you ONLY get the name (no effects). you put two of the same in and you get the name and the effects. now put two different potions in and the 3rd slot will show a potion and after the timer will show what would happen if you combined the two (like combining items in a crafting grid) and if you want two you can pick it up and spend the original two for 2 of the new one :mellow.gif: . please let me know if you like this?

also the enchant stand could be used for books you find. WHILE you can use books you make for "writing potions" using the potion stand.

You know. Towards the end, they talked about how we've had all these monsters, items, and biome changes. You know what's missing (aside from changes in animal behavior)? Another animal or two, to balance out all the mobs/ enemies we've added. What about a horse or another somewhat neutral animal like a zombie pigman/ wolf? (a bear, complete with a hunger thing, but more partial to other animals than you) I know both of these are in Mo Creatures already, but I'd still like to see one or both in vanilla Minecraft, especially if Notch's toying around with behaviors and threw in 4 new enemies/ pests, compared to two friendlier creatures. Yes, I'm counting Cave Spiders, since they're venomous and can enter areas regular spiders can't access.

"I don't plan to add a new dimension at the moment. It's just to performance heavy on servers, and the current dimensions need more attention before we start adding new ones." < Yeah, like biomes or actual varied terrain in the nether. Nether ruins didn't do the trick at all.
Writeable books is probably the thing I want to see most! But these updates also look really great. Keep it up Mojang :smile.gif:

But still no writable books
Pft, go back to Terraria.com then bloke, Minecraft will never be Terraria. Minecraft blasts Terraria away like a creeper high on lightning.
