I think Mojang should've focused more on setting up Minecraft more as, like, a game engine... something that entire new games can be based on, which they can license out (sort of like how many, many games use various versions of game engines like the Unreal Engine and Source), rather than implementing new features into the core game.
Just looking at all the work modders are doing, I think it's fair to say that modders will be able to add things players want to the game faster than Mojang can, and without following a single route (enchanting doesn't do much if you wanted to, say, make a cyberpunk style Minecraft or a "virtual reality" Minecraft.)
That said, Minecraft is still a brilliant game and it's been more than worth my $20. Congratulations, Mojang!
does not change the fact that no one has as much focus as Mojang when it comes to their bread winner, someone may be able to factory output plenty of content, but it will all be weird and have a "slapped together" a bunch of mods feel to it, the direction will never be held constant and there will be countless mod packs that will take years of sifting through community efforts in order to piece together exactly what you want, not to mention compatibility integration on such a massive scale would be absurd, so all in all, no thanks.
and whats with all the trolling over DLC? you guys need to stop worrying, if you think you are worrying, think about how much Mojang wants to keep you in their pocket, of course they will create new content for you to download, what are you new?
Awesome news. (Naturally, I'm stuck in a cheap-o apartment in the Middle East with no way to plug my laptop in and more work to get done than I can reasonably think about without panicking. But the first free weekend I get, I'm gonna seed a world using my favorite book title and pop a creeper in the face with an enchanted hoe.)
