Have you ever tried making a character skin, but were frustrated with the process of drawing the skin in a 2D environment, only to see it turn out strange when you finally uploaded it? We recently came across an interesting skinning program for character models, designed by Paril, which has an especially innovative feature - the ability to paint directly on the player model! This innovative take on a useful utility is definitely worth a look - give it a try here, and see what you think!
i would prefer to use a website than waste memory on a program
Websites still "waste memory". In fact, web-oriented programs tend to use more RAM, especially if we talk about Flash (ESPECIALLY Flash) and Java.
MCSkin3D only takes up ~12 MB on your hard drive, and you can't tell me with a straight face you're going to miss 12 MB :smile.gif:
For those of you saying you'd "rather use" another program: I implore you to at least give it a try. I spent my hard time working on this program, and I did this for you artists: I'm doing this to make it easier for you artists to work on skins, not to be shunned off by people who are afraid to try new programs.
Thank you for featuring this, I am indebted to you forever!
Well, this is the same, and have been out for sooo long time..
How is it the same? My program lets you paint directly ON the model, as well as a full 3d camera, a 2d mode with a camera, a skin management list on the left, direct upload to Minecraft.net support, several color pickers, resizable window, full 32-bit color support... shall I go on?
Well, this is the same, and have been out for sooo long time..
You can draw straight onto the 3D model there? How do I do that? I can only spin it around...
You draw directly onto the 3D model in this program.
Also, I don't see any dodge/burn tools or undo/redo. Where are the tools? I don't mean to be aggressive, but anyone who thinks they're the same hasn't looked into it extensively enough. :sad.gif: I'm also genuinely curious, because I don't remember any tools in MinerShoes other than paint and dropper.
I dunno, I've replaced any other skin editors with this one because of the skin saving system and being able to directly draw onto the skin without lagging like NovaSkin (plus, I don't like how they upload my skins automatically, publicly, and without credit if I just want to get a screenshot of a skin and don't have an account). I rather have a program where I can bring my laptop with me, with or without an internet connection, and draw.
I think @Boganis, it supports more colors than SkinEdit (can make and use any color with it).
I challenge you to find a program whose feature set matches, or exceeds, mine. And photoshop/GIMP doesn't count :tongue.gif:
But seriously, please, give it a try and don't shrug this off as a clone. I'm trying to innovate for skin artists. Please keep in mind the only prior art I've referenced is SkinEdit; I have NOT used any other skin editors besides that one.
I know this one lets you draw directly onto your character, I just don't see why it makes the front page.
Anyway, I'm sure some people will find it useful.
SkinEdit doesn't let you paint directly onto the 3d preview - again, I implore you guys to TRY the program out rather than assuming that the screenshots are what is all to see. SkinEdit has been on several frontpages, and is currently the defacto standard - it has over 1 million thread views, while mine has ~3000. EVERYBODY knows of SkinEdit.
I think I prefer skin edit, although this is a much more stable program, I cannot seem to find an option which allows me to paint in 2D whilst being able to see a preview in 3D in realtime.
It's planned, don't worry. The only issue is finding a way to do it that suits everybody - not everyone wants it crammed into the main view.
It comes with a huge array of pre-generated clothing that you can add to your character, you can paint on the character using the "custom" body parts option (although not as easy as with your program, I give you that) and it runs very smoothly on flash-enabled mobile devices like Androids.
And as it uses different layers for all clothing options, you can easily undo ore move around any addition that you don't like.
And you can import your existing skins.
I have created a ton of skins with on the train and most of the skins for my "Mobs for Mace" mod were done with it as well.
A very good example of a program very unlike mine - this sort of thing can't be done with my program, thou arst correct. If enough people suggest it, I will add in something similar to a part chooser. Sadly, I won't be able to target mobile devices or ever even bother working with the memory-leak-heavy Flash.
You can easily import your skins via Skins < Import Skins.
This editor moreso tailors those who create them all by scratch.

Dude it's free. I have yet to stumble upon any Minecraft related program that costs money.
Free AND open source!
I have a very strong dislike towards developers who make you pay for extra content that you already bought the damn game for. I will never make you pay for anything more than a game I create myself that I wish to get revenue from.
This is awesome...does it support additional stuff like hats and hair?
Yes sir, hats are supported - read the FAQs on the main thread to find out how to enable them (it's disabled by default so that it doesn't get in the way).
this is better. It allows you to view player and mob skins, and edit them with the editor you are comfortable using, and as soon as you save, it automatically changes in the program :DPS there is a link on the word "this" in my last post

It’s the unpleasantness of the system that keeps me out.
I’d rather be in, in a good system. That’s where my discontent comes from:
being forced to choose to stay outside.
My advice: Just keep movin’ straight ahead.
Every now and then you find yourself in a different place."

Retired StaffAnyway, I did see it as a great program. Looking forward to it.
True, but this is a program, not an online website.
This would give you something to do when the internet has failed. Other than that i agree.
