I mean, really, do they expect us all to win 500$ in Vegas?
The Cheapest amount of money I could possibly spend for this trip is 570$
Yeah, I'd really love to go, but my Moneys aren't unlimited, so, that overrides my desires
Okay I'm annoyed that Notch tweeted that his company is losing money on the convention no matter how many tickets they sell, because this is a lie. The ticket prices of $100 for early buyers and $140 for everyone else are absurdly high, even higher than COMIC CON which was only $105.
The rates are $35,000.00 daily for the 2 days. There are some additional set-up and clean-up costs which add about another $5,000. I'm sure when you add up all the other miscellaneous costs, you'd be looking at several thousand more, so let's say a total of $10,000.00 plus the rental rate, which would be $70,000.00 for 2 days. This means the total cost of the venue would be $80,000.00. Throw in all the other costs and youre looking at what, about 100,000.00, maybe $120,000.00 tops? It isn't like a rave or concert where there are extra rental days for loading massive stages and sound/lighting equipment.
Now let's look at that compared to the $100-$140 ticket price. Sell 1,000 tickets... get $100k-140k revenue. You have at least broken even if not made a profit, on a pitifully low attendance of only 1,000 people. Sell 10,000 tickets? You're looking at 1 million to 1.4 million in revenue. Which of course blows away the costs and means you would be making a ton of profit.
What annoys me is that Notch is lying. The ticket prices are very high. The reason for the high ticket prices is that Notch is trying to cash in on the fan base without actually giving the fans any game content for their money. It is one thing for Notch to try to cash in on the fans in this way, and to be greedy with the ticket prices, but to do that AND lie about it to make it sound like Notch is losing money doing this as charity for the fans is just so insulting that I had to say something.
I live in Vegas so I would have been happy to spend the money but they sold out right after I came home from a big vacation so I couldn't afford it at the time.
I am still trying to find anyone in my area that is selling their ticket. :/ But if I don't go I hope everyone else has fun!
