When I heard of 'Scrolls' I never even thought of 'The Elser Scrolls' (Which Btw is one of my fav series) and I'm sure no one would ever confuses the two titles!
Bethesda has they head up their asses if they think that they can own the word Scrolls. Either way, congrats to Notch and the Mojang team for their outstanding work on Minecraft and it's sales.

Watching the tears fall, ever so slowly. Seeing the blood run, always keep moving.
Finding the world now, ever so unknown. Holding my heart here, always keep dreaming.
Bethesda is pulling the stupidest move in media, I'm glad that MCforum chose to show the community what self-centered jerks they are, trying to pull a potential lawsuit out of thin air.
I was thinking the same thing. I cannot be entirely sure, but I think I remember someone from bethesda once commenting that you cannot enjoy major success in the game development industry unless you are backed by a big corporation. If my memory is correct this is in response to Minecraft's 3 million sales of a game that is not even out of BETA yet and doesn't have millions of dollars sunk into graphics engines and physics engines and whatever else.
A small team has just passed the earnings of roughtly $63,000,000.00
I would call that a major success.
Oh... I WAS looking forward to buying TESV when it comes out this november. But I think I will wait until Bethesda puts their dogs back in the fence and leaves Notch and his team alone.
If a judge were to examine Scrolls and Skyrim and compare their presentation and content, he would likely hold Bethesda in contempt for wasting his time. Then Mojang could turn around and sue Bethesda for defamation of character for the accusation of infringement. And that actually could hold up in court.
Guys, keep in mind that it is probably not Bethesda as a whole that asked this of Mojang - it could very well just be their marketing department or the head or whatever. I doubt the game devs much care either way. So go ahead and keep liking Bethesda while still hating whoever wrote that letter.
Oh, and the funny thing is, I see the preview of Skyrim on the righthand side of the screen a lot when viewing the forums. People who come here are exposed to ads for Skyrim. Maybe the site admin should cease and desist shwoing off Skyrim...
what i find ironic is that he cant use the word "scrolls" wich is in hundreds of games but can use "obsitian potals" wich are alot like "oblivion portals"
Also, side note, I don't know if it was the best idea to tell us about Bethesda quite yet, Mojang, until you have this a bit more settled.. now you're gonna have a few hundred rabid Minecraft fans giving you a bad name while defaming Bethesda. :\

This is what happens when you have a forum full of kids/run by kids.
Thats stupid, you cant claim a word because it is in your game name, if it was like that, all the words in my message will be copyrighted and you could all go in jail, thats really stupid.
People, seriously, try to remember that this is not the Bethesda developers (you know, the ones who actually make the games) throwing these arbitrary legal words around. This is their marketing/legal department, a bunch of guys who are for all intents and purposes, not really involved with the creation of the "Elder Scrolls" franchise itself, instead concerning themselves with the legal standing of said franchise. These are boring lawyers in grey suits paid to do the necessary evil of copyright infringement accusations.
Sure, the game devs could go to their lawyers and be like, yeah, we don't like Mojang using that name, make a case out of it, but more likely the game devs themselves had no idea about this, or just didn't care, until the whole thing was already in motion.
So don't get the guilty parties confused. The guys "making" Skyrim are (likely) not involved in this stupid legal contest.

You guys dont own the item scrolls, Like RutherfordCP said, they're just jealous
Another way to look at it I suppose is that you've gotten so big that Bethesda is actually threatened by you! =]
So congrats on that side of things Mojang( and the 3 million in sales!!!!!)

In 10 years, no one will remember bethesda.
