Isn't it kind of silly to keep the default height at 128? I mean, is there any reason to keep it at that?
Yes. According to this email (or at least this is what I got out of it), doubling the height means doubling the RAM usage, because you are effectively doubling the size of chunks (imagine making the far render distance double of what it is now). Feel free to correct me if my assumptions are wrong.
Everyone has been talking about the 'mystery' bar being exp or stamina, or the new armor bar, here's what I think:
It's a fatigue bar! It controls EVERYTHING! Jumping, sprinting, and will even put an end to you spamming the left click to kill that angry mob in your face. As for armor, I dunno' about that, it's just a thought and makes sense to me, what do you guys think?
I think that new long bar is for that new "sprint" feature notch mentioned. Kind of like endurance or something.

There is more info on the level height here: http://notch.tumblr.com/ read sharing an interesting e-mail
That worries me quite a bit, more RAM and CPU consumption results in more FPS dropping. I barely managed to get 20-40 right now, I can't afford to have it drop further.
sheesh it took them long enough to add more meat. no offense, but having porkchops as the main and near only way to restore health makes it sound like a goofy arcade game not an epic adventure/sandbox/simulation/epicness.
i just hope that the bar next to health which is most likely hunger is optional. i prefer to just use a mod that adds hunger, thirst, and energy. also if that one bar is EXP like everyone seems to think I hope there is some specific stat upgrades. i'd prefer to upgrade my archery and hunting (theres an idea) skills compared to sword and idk swimming skill. oh well i can still just suggest my heart out on my suggestion thread.

20-40?
I'm lucky if i can get it to stay above 10.
It's not the end of the world, but a mere inconvienience, and have you tried using gamebooster? i almost ensure you'll keep above 30 with it.

Mostly moved on. May check back a few times a year.
Right...because we dont already have compasses...
...or maps...
...not to mention that having one from the onset of the game would ruin the exploration.
