Don't know if it's been said or actualy means anything but Notch's screenshot said:
"Minecraft Bet 1.9 Beta 2" in the top right hand corner.

Where as with Jeb's screenshot of posible new charactor screen, although a bit hard to read, says:
"Minecraft Beta 1.9 Prerelease 2" (Though I think that's just a 'code name' or something for the fact that it's further on than the 1.9 Prerelease but not publicly accessable.)

So does anyone know if this means that there will be further updates past 1.9 before the full version released on 11/11/11?

He could have jumped off a tower or something. Isn't that a posability? I mean you can't tell what's behind him!
And before you say he couldn't have jumped because there is water around him, Think 'Havn't they changed it so that you still take fall damage in 2 block deep water'.

Finally, a proper hardcore mode!

I wonder how it would work in SMP...maybe if you die, you can only spectate and can't play on the server until reset?

My idea of hardcore would not be world deletion, but that there are 1-3 randomly generated monsters in every chunk! Right from the time the map generator starts generating chunks! People complain that Endermen are too easy, how about fighting your way through mob after mob of monsters just to get some wood! Hardcore doesn't necessarily have to mean game over, it just has to mean ridiculously hard to beat! :wink.gif:

Invisible Amnesia water monster.

I like this... I just hope that something may be done bout the poisonous spiders though. Taking on 3 of them is crap unless we get an antidote or maybe can wear something to shield from poisoning...

hey i'm a "save scum", but that could be fun, but there should be some special features like a new other rule or a new block effect other than only affecting you and mobs

I reckon this could work if it deleted all your belongings and stuff in chests but kept the world itself

Its incredible how many are so oblivious to the gameplay aspect of hardcore mode.

Yes...you wont be building huge castle or redstone computers.

You'll build whats nesesacry to survive, kill mobs and giving you shelter.

People are just going to back up their game saves

I personally wanna try to play hardcore mode without any backups, I think it's should be fun.

I think I'll just stick to hard mode for now. Unless they make hardcore the mandatory difficulty for all worlds you make, in that case I will stay with 1.8.1 version.

Hardcore mode doesn't make sense. It's always up to you - to backup your .Minecraft folder or not backup, to be honest with yourself and delete your World after dying even on Normal or not.

Imho - Hardcore must be smtn like: mobs will not die in the daylight, you got only 3 hearts lifebar, no sleeping in the bad, etc. But NOT just simple "Delete world" button...
