I hope there'll be some kinda perk for being in Hardcore - something that will tempt the player into harms way.
An example perhaps might be the ability roll to tame hostile mobs by.... hugging them for a couple seconds?
Sweet - Hardcore mode is something I'll enjoy. I'm frequently starting new worlds just to experience the start up challenge - now I'll have a legit reason to do so, without the ability to "hoard" old worlds.
That was a joke, you don't lose your premium account on a different difficulty. And why is is this horrible if you don't have to use it, it's an optional difficulty change.
I hope when you turn it to hardcore there will b a message saying 'Are you sure?' Then, if you say yes, it should say 'Are you really sure? I mean, if you die this worlds gone. Are you willing to risk it?' Then, after you say yes again, it will say, 'Alright, whatever you say...'
Like the old Doom Nightmare mode. "Are you sure? This skill level isn't even remotely fair."
There should be a Nightmare difficulty for Minecraft, to go with Hardcore mode. >=]
That button makes me wonder whether there may be a rudimentary anti-cheat system in place?
Rather than "deleting" your world I suspect it may render the world files unusable by overwriting them with other data. It will make recovering your world a lot harder for those who would just pull their world back using disk recovery software (But not impossible). I guess it all depends on how much data it has to write and where.
SAAAAAAVE-SCUMMING.
That's where you backup your saves (or world as the case may be), and when it gets deleted by the game, you then restore it from the backup. No fancy-schmancy disk recovery software necessary, and no simple way to avoid it.
Save scumming only makes sense in games where hardcore mode is the ONLY mode, like the Rogue-like games.
In a game where you choose Hardcore mode, why would you chose it and then save-scum? It makes no sense.
I know it is small, but Notch should add random text every time you die, just like on the main menu. Some of the stuff he could think of would be priceless.
Love the addition of World Deletion, makes the game that much more intuitive, and really forces the player into a much more cautious state of mind from now on.
Well that's...
Unfortunate, lazy, annoying, and a bad decision on his part.
Give you friend an awesome map but set it to hardcore mode.
Let that friend make something awesome.
THEN, do fshit and kill your friend's Steve.

If you close and reopen your save the YOU HAVE DIED screen will be still there :V
Contest hosted for Steelfeathers' Enchanted Pack
If you really want your beloved world to be deleted after you die, just do it manually.
