I think notch should axe creative mode and put these changes in ASAP just to see you whiny ****ers **** yourselves. This isn't your game. "OH BUT WE PLAYED IN BETA! HE PROMISED US THE EXACT GAME WE WANTED! WE'RE GIVING FEEDBACK!"
NO. You're not. Saying you don't like RPG's isn't giving feedback. That's just saying what you want out of minecraft. Guess what though, YOU'RE NOT IN CHARGE. You guys will complain about literally everything. Minecraft not turning out the way you dreamed of it? SO WHAT. Deal with it. You're not on the dev team, so just guess what? Your opinion means nothing. If notch sees that a majority of people don't want these changes, it doesn't matter. Because if he wants the game to be like this, he will make it that way. Nothing you can do about it.
Go ahead and see notch if he's going to come to your house and force you to play 1.9. Oh yea. He won't. So in other words, you can just ignore ALL of these features, and do whatever the **** you want on peaceful mode. Oh right, but since YOU don't like it, nobody can have it!
I really hope the potions regen health like the old porkchops, that would be awesome
But i really dont like how the stats look, they would look better at the sides or something, leaving the inventory in the middle.

"I love go-o-o-o-old. The look of it, the taste of it, the smell of it, the texture. I love gold so much that I even lost my genitalia in an unfortunate shmelting accident."
Stop drastically changing it! Stop it! This is a beta not a bloody alpha, can't you just fix stuff please!
Since 1.8 I've been almost unwilling to try out the new features on account of the vastly changed combat and stupid hunger which I think EVERYONE wants to be optional, and the damn removed features like the F key changed to F3 and F which is just stupid and pointlessly detrimental to gameplay! Adventuring isn't fun because the new cave generation means there's ore bloody everywhere and wood is now obtainable underground!
And now they want to go adding stats when the ONLY thing that will make minecraft undoubtetly better will be mod support, but that's been 'forgotten' since this time last year...
At least you mentioned the fact that it MAY not be in 1.9
Content writers should be careful about what they write and should NEVER add speculation without confirmation.
Remember that time when you got every noob on the forum to believe that lamb chops would be in 1.8? AND the time you said that 1.9 is out without mentioning that it was a pre-release?
To all the people saying "you dont have to use the potions" this is correct in SSP but in SMP if everyone is using potions you wont have a choice (since you will have a major disadvantage if you dont use them)
Also to people saying "if you dont like it, just play creative", this makes no sense, creative is NOT survival, you cant die and have access to unlimited items, sure you could not use the unlimited items but you still wont be able to die, so there will be no survival element.
1) Look at picture
2) Jump to conclusion
3) Assume the worst
4) Get all worked up about it
5) Post uninformed complaint full of angst
6) Be angry
7) Let your imagination ruin your day
8) Ruin other people's forum experience
9) Fail to be constructive in any way

I know a lot of people are putting a great deal of effort into their posts, so I thought I'd provide this helpful template.
There are so many possible things that could be imagined from the changes shown here. I'm imagining all these different outcomes, and I'm excited to see how close my imaginings will come to the released version.
I hope through the addition of new features and options, that Minecraft becomes a customizable experience that fits almost everybody's interest, and leaves nobody feeling left out of this amazing community of creative and fun people.
I hope you all get everything you're hoping for, and a few unexpected things you end up loving.
From where is all this crap about goodbye sandbox stuff coming from? Why all the rpg stuff is coming to destroy us negative crap?
From what I can tell you are not obligated to collect xp orbs or kill skeletons and zombies.
When potions are added you are not obligated to use them.
Just like everything in the game, its optional.

Then don't play. Or play creative. Done.
Other than that... I think this is a wonderful update!

don't get me wrong i love rpg like content but mhmmm, i hope they have an option to go back to the normal vanilla minecraft.
