Notch has said several times he wants minecraft to go in an RPG direction, his exact words being "more Rogue-like." (Still not exactly sure what the hell Rogue is) So stop whining, it's going to happen whether you think you know better or not.
I personally see nothing wrong with any of the new features. Hunger? Who gives a crap, it's not like you die from it. Villages? Rare enough that if you don't roam all over the place you may not find one. Really, you can totally ignore the RPG aspects if you want, I know I do. In addition, stats will likely not be MMO type where they restrict your ability to do things, but rather provide bonuses.
A little laugh at the people complaining about Minecraft being an "FPS". You do know that FPS means "First Person SHOOTER"? Having a bow in no way qualifies Minecraft as a shooter. All minecraft shares with other first person games is the fact it's in first person. Really, people.
=D I cant wait to see the new brewing system that is going to be added (saddly not in 1.9 =( ) and see all the different potion combinations, the game is after all, all about creation.
I think the things on the left are actually potions, not stats.
I deffinitly think you are inccorrect. mojang would not add a second inventory like that. plz explain how u came to this conclusion. look at the way the numbers are setup next to them. that is a level system level:exp not an item tracking method.
'RE @XeroJABS: The reason why I don't think the potion effects will be in 1.9 is because there's not enough time to add the brewing syste' From Jebs twitter. I'm guessing that it'll be in 1.10.
If you have problems with the games progress. You can save your old minecraft.jar files and not update. I guess these people forgot that the game is still in beta. This could have been the direction all along. The only thing that should be added is a download section for all the different versions of the jar files to keep the people happy that don't like anything about anything. This way they wont have anything to complain about again.

In fact, I'm pretty sure it was. I've been a player since almost a year now, and I remember Notch mentioning about how he'd eventually like to get the game more 'adventure-y' as far back as I can remember.
In fact, take a look at Notch's tweet from over a year ago -- http://notch.tumblr.com/post/779956568/the-rationale-for-redstone -- it very explicitly talks about three 'modes,' Adventure being one of them. A lot of the recent work has been towards the framework for the Adventure mode, now that they've got Survival Mode down pretty well, which in turn was developed once they got the Creative mode down pretty well. Some things have changed and been modified over the last year, but it's still pretty much progressing along those lines. Everything is a progression; people seem to forget that that's how games that are in development work.

Stats typically don't have cool downs below them. You don't level up to level 2 and get to stay level two for 3 minutes.
He's showing off the bottles and talking about brewing potions, you drink a potion, you get increased strength. That goes on the left to show that you have the strength buff and how long it lasts. The reason it says Strength II is because that's a second level strength potion, or maybe he just drank two potions and stacked them.
What that picture is showing is after drinking a bunch of different potions, he has all the buffs active on the left, each with their own cool down determined by how long potions last and when they were consumed.
There is still a sandbox mode. It's creative mode. When you start a new world you can choose if you'd like to play minecraft as a sandbox game or in survival mode.
Yep sadly man. I'm with you 100% on this one. I dealt with the pistons and endermen but this is a bit to far.
