I see what looks like naturally-generated cobblestone stairs in between the where the waterfall starts at the top and the lit area at the top left. They're placed on some stone brick going down and to the right.

Actually, Notch said 1.8 is going to be released at PAX in august. However, the official 1.8 update will happen afterwards depending on how long it takes to fix any problems addressed.
