Jeb just tweeted a bit of welcome news to many subterranean enthusiasts - fire (or more specifically, burning effects from fire) will be significantly reduced in the coming updates, making a brief touch with lava much less of a guaranteed death sentence. As burning on a player is the same regardless of source, this also makes fireplaces, netherrack torches and other players with flint-and-steel quite a bit less likely to accidentally kill players.

These people, they are like ghosts. Always in the shadows. Always hiding behind lies and proxied soldiers. But they cannot find us. They cannot stop us, they cannot stop the future.
By netherack tourches, my first thought was lighting netherack on fire, then i thought maybe its a new type of tourch? Possibly?
Like the aether, Normal torches shouldn't word in the nether. Instead, you need to craft netherrack torches. Netherack tourches can only be crafted with a blaze rod and glow stone giving you 16 instead of 4 (due to blaze rods being rare, you could also craft them with golden nuggets)
Will burning still affect undead with the same amount of damage as before or will the damage undead take also be reduced? I also definitely think that if you fall in lava that you should still get burned. I can see reducing/eliminating fire damage from fireplaces, though.
Chick8ed, you should probably make it clearer that what you just said was an idea not a fact.
Blaze Rods are useless right now, and the Aether is a mod not supported by Mojang - they probably don't even know normal torches don't work there, I didn't.
If it says fireplaces AND netherrack torches, then it would seem they are different. As of right now its impossible to make a fireplace without lighting netherrack on fire, which is what people are saying entherrack torches are. I think its possible that netherrack, a substance able to be on fire all the time, may be turned into a torch. (Recipe would be netherrack on bottom and golden nugget on top or soemthing)

Glowstone? Maybe torches that work in water? :biggrin.gif:
