ATM. It's not Notch that is working on on 1.8. Jeb is doing all the work ALONE.
Try programing what 1.8 has to offer and then talk. 1.8 is done, but might have some hidden bugs, so it NEEDS to be tested, and as Jeb said, one day is NOT enough.

well considering 2 people made a full game in only like a week that was 10x funner then alpha/vanilla MC and had a working smp witch btw MC still doesnt
So it appears that Mojang wishes to fly solo, and without the support of the people that have bought the game. A beta is a beta for a reason. In my opinion, they should have stuck with the rapid release schedule if they really are pushing towards a version that they can call final, non-beta, etc. Save all this long term'd development stuff for expansion packs and whatnot. Another thing I noticed is that there has been a lot of activity on the twitter and facebook pages answering questions about 1.8 and so on, yet they're worried about testing time???

and in a week is still B/S as they are using this to make their living meaning they have no side jobs except other games to work on meaning they can stop going and doing PAX and shiz and worry about getting the damn game out
Jeb recently mentioned that 1.8 will most likely not be released on September 8th, to allow time for more thorough testing and quality assurance. Still, there seems to be a careful optimism regarding the release date - while it may not be on the 8th, it will still likely be in the near future.
On a more positive note, the PNG file containing the new food and "experience" effects was released, take a look!
Don't turn this into HL3, DNF or BM:S. Release it instead of postponing constantly. Even if you have to update more later, it'd still be better to release it on the eighth and patch it after the fact than to release it all at once in a matter of weeks, months, years, etc.

Well, I don't care about waiting. I really think that Notch should not split the adventure update in two parts... it'll suck. I wish he could IGNORE THE GAY PART OF HIS COMMUNITY and finish EVERYTHING he promissed on the adventure update, and then he should release the update. ._.
We all hate the extra 1.8.1, 1.8.2, 1.8.3 updates. Give them time people! >_>
