Make them randomly spawned objects in snowy biomes (like pumpkins) instead of mobs, and then make it so they have a chance to drop coal and/or sticks when destroyed. Hell, add a carrot nose and make those a possible drop, then make carrots farm-able by making them a random drop when cutting wild grass!
Notch also said that they will be craftable and friendly. He is pretty suicidal too trowing snowballs at enemies =) He will smelt in hot biomes and leave snow where they pass.
The Desrt is empty its all sand and Cacti and dried plants. There should animals like scorpions and snakes. It will be cool if they added new water for t he swamp biome and new plants for swamp biome.
