I'd rather have Notch spend these few months increasing the height limit or adding more sandbox features. These adventure-like additions just don't seem to belong in a sandbox game. Seems like Notch is already running out of ideas for a sandbox game and is randomly scavenging features from other games to 'tack on' to Minecraft. Completely misguided direction if you ask me.
I love Minecraft because it is a game that lets you exercise creativity and be artistic. But it seems like Notch now wants to go in the direction of Terraria and build this into an adventure game.
But meh, if Minecraft becomes generic. I'll just move onto other games which already have boss fights, dragons, RPG features and computer AI that is about ONE MILLION times better and more evolved than Minecraft could ever make. AND I WOULDN'T HAVE TO WAIT MONTHS JUST FOR SINGLE SMALL UPDATE.
am i the only one who is not happy for 1.8. i mean an objective this is a sandbox game not an adventure game. thats why i play alpha now minecraft is getiing filled with so much crap. for one beds. the point of night is to survive it not to sleep through it
1.7 was a good update. Pistons is a small feature, yet it has infinite potential for creativity. An outstanding addition to a sandbox game. Quality over quantity.
1.8, I'm afraid is just going to be mostly junk. Most of the content won't have anything to do with the sandbox genre. If I wanted to play an adventure orientated game with raiding and bosses, I would have continued playing WoW. I'd be happy to pay $15/month for a vastly superior adventuring experience. Even if I went broke, I'd just play one of the hundreds of free MMORPG's out there which would still have superior adventure and RPG mechanics than Minecraft could ever develop.
All this excitement over 1.8 leads me to think most people here have never played a REAL RPG.
I think if their is a final boss it should be herobrine and should just be their as kind of as a test of how good a player is and should drop good loot as the only reward(and of course braging rights)

Yeah. I'm kinda not happy about 1.8 too mainly because of one of his posts in Twitter or World of Notch (I don't remember. XP) Some fans of Terraria accused him of planning to copy ideas from Terraria, and i kinda saw why and agreed. A good game (even sandbox) has to be truly original.
Notch doesn't have ideas of his own. He either 'copies' other games or goes around 'shopping' in the forums to see what mods he feels like officially adding into Minecraft. He's moved his 'focus' onto developing that digital CCG (Scrolls or w/e) in an attempt to *rolls eyes* compete with MTG.
