Personally, I think the update will be cool, but some parts don't fit the Minecraft theme. Minecraft is supposed to be realistic. And I like the old food system better, rather than healing hardley half a heart with a bite. Also, Enderman.... Again realistic. Think of this in real life: WTF is an enderman!?! And Experience points aren't necessary. Through the NPC villages do add quite the realistic touch. You can't be the only living, not un-dead, person alive. So my thoughts... Drop the Enderman, New Food, and Experience. And don't troll on my guys and girls, I'm just giving my opinion.
I know, it's so annoying that the date keeps changing, I forced an update on Minecraft yesterday only to find out that 1.8 isn't out yet T.T Now I can't get my mods back.
Eh...these are some nice updates and I can't wait to try it out, but now there seems to be so much more implemented that would make just building things much more difficult. Yes, there's creative but it's not as fulfilling if you can't go and find everything yourself and build from scratch. Its like Single Player Commands. I wish we'd have 3 modes. Creative, Classic Survival, and the new adventure mode.
God, people whine that 'ADVENTURE is replacing SURVIVAL. It's still SURVIVAL. Just has more features. If you watch the footage of Notch playing at PAX, you would see it goes between SURVIVAL or CREATIVE. Not ADEVENTURE or CREATIVE. It's just the ADVENTURE update, making adventuring and fighting mobs mean more to the player rather than sheltering yourself from combat the whole time unless you come upon a dungeon or big cave while exploring. Which, you would still be able to do, all your old maps ARE compatitble, and won't have the new dungeons and rivers and oceans, until you explore out of already loaded content. ADVENTURE is not replacing SURVIVAL. SURVIVAL is getting updated. And Endermen will be really rare, Notch said, so the chances of them taking parts from your house, so long as you keep the area lightened up, should be very slim, if they move more than world-generated blocks.
All that said, I can't wait for 1.8. Not too crazy about any experience-points system though, but eh. I believe the experience of getting your own diamond, without hacking, should be its own rewarding experience. But, I'm not Notch.
And also, I love the idea of NPC's and their villages, and the interaction there, and the thoughts of ruins or abandoned mine shafts. The new lighting system will be great, especially the brightness slider. Aaaannnnnddd, Endermen will be a fun new mob to fight against. I've lost any fear of creepers, zombies, spiders, and skeletons, even Ghasts. I never really go to the Nether as there's nothing a whole lot to it, it needs new/harder enemies, and more items, maybe getting to use some ore specific to the nether to make even stronger weapons than diamond that are about the rarity of iron or diamond or something in the middle... you wouldnt want the nether to just be overflowing with super powerful materials. Maybe, even make some sort of villages in the nether with new mobs... I digress.
Can't wait for 1.8, 1.9, and whatever updates lie ahead, and the official release.
You guys are all complaining about the wait time, but really you should be savoring it. Honestly, this is going to ruin minecraft for me. I run a server, and it relise hard on the lighting, physics, and cloud height. There'd better be a server mod to nerf endermen and such.
The news post contains false information throughout it. C'mon, guys, you're looked at as reliable sources of Minecraft information.
Mojang has SPECIFICALLY SAID survival is NOT getting replaced, and that Adventure Update is NOT Adventure Mode. It's still Survival Mode.
Also, the hunger stuff isn't quite correct, it's once over a certain threshold that your health regens, doesn't scale with the hunger bar.
They haven't specifically stated that individual blocks had different lighting, only that lighting dealing with day/night is separate from torch/glowstone/etc lighting. We still don't know what the full runddown on that is.
Guys, stop complaining about how long it will take. Seriously, it takes a lot to code all this and they dont have all the time in the owrld like most modders. Anyway, half of you guys can't mod.
well now this update is a lot better than i thought, and the new architecture of the towns sounds a lot better than the pictures we have already. also, im loving the abandoned mineshafts, rivers/oceans, biome borders and the 'shop'.
nice job notch! diamond for you!
lower caps rage!!!!!!!
GAAAHHHHHH
