On the very left, the cactus is 4 blocks high. You can see that it is next to a tiny elevation, and it rises up 3 visible blocks. The base block is not visible.
hmm that sand next to the chest looks like a pressure plate and the chest is opened.... redstone powered chests anyone? just a thought he could be standing on it....... but i really want dual wielding as much as the next guy lol
My guess is that the second thing could also be the addition of oasis biomes. Purely speculation, but next to the little pond there are 2 grass blocks. Just an idea...

as you can see its all sand, ussaly its mixed, but its now all sand, so i think it isnt random anymore.
The thing behind the cactuses look like a key, if I'm not mistaken. If there's an OPEN chest, there must be a locked or closed one that needs a KEY to open it.

DUDE THEY ARE SAND, THEY ARE TWO SAND BLOCKS PLACED ONE BLOCK TALLER THAN THE REST, IT IS THE EXACT SAME TEXTURE.
Just use Risugami's shelf mod for that!
