Notch never said in his tweet "two things in this picture", all he said is that he finished two things...
it could be... and think about this for a second... it means THAT HE FINISHED THE ONE BLOCK CHEST AND THE TWO BLOCK CHEST (no, my capslock did not get hit by mistake).
The first one is the chest, of course; and my best guess for the second one would have to be left hand usage. It would make sense; the second feature was supposed to be difficult to find, not obvious like the chest or sunset. Thus, notch cleverly held a sand block in his left hand to make it almost unnoticeable in the midst of the desert biome.
Also, if you haven't noticed, there isn't much use for the secondary mouse button in minecraft, apart from eating food. Say, if you were to have a pickaxe in your right hand and a sword in your left, you could mine and defend without hassle. This makes sense to me, anyway.
Well the secondary mouse button is like the action button. Like right clicking your dogs to stay and such. I'm guessing you assumed that the right click is to change to left hand? What would be the point of using one of the main buttons youll use to just change front of left hand when you still place the same way? If ANYTHING left hand would be an option, not a binded key (though he did announce keybinding freely).
No the 2nd thing is that chests don't face west when placed with no blocks next to it (AKA: chests placement is now similar to furnaces, dispensers, etc.)

To the above comment, it's very easy to see (by inspecting the sand left of the chest) that something is different; for instance, the pixels are bigger than the surrounding sand. A LOT bigger, implying a close perspective, meaning handheld. Even if he had HUD turned on, could he not do some photo cropping to just take out the toolbar?
The only problem is the cursor, which (if the above theory were true) should be visible. However, assuming that he did put the photo under some very basic editing (hence the cropping), can we not assume he took out the cursor as well?
the 2nd one i think is maybe hes holding a sand block in his LEFT hand or the lighting in the clouds is different
and maybe the cactus height has been changed. p.s. i dont see any other enviroments in the background...
No, I know. That thing behind the cactus is another chest (zoom in to see). Natural chests outside of dungeons? Cactus dungeons? Chest biomes? :ohmy.gif:

No but what he did say was that he "worked on 2 new things" and then linked the picture which IMPLIES that the 2 new things are in the pic. And seeing as how it's on the homepage of the forums it's most likely what it means. 2 new things. We already had 2 chest blocks that combine into a full one. Most likely the first thing added is chests opening/with possible locks.
The second one is the Biome. Look at the size of the desert, They said they're going to make the biomes much larger so that you don't walk through a desert and it takes 5 seconds to cross it.
Hm... definitely forgot its other purposes (haven't played this game in a while...); thanks for correcting me. I actually think your idea is logical, giving us the option to use our left hand... i'm sure that could be put to use in some way.
Actually... I'm pretty sure this is it. If you look at the PAX footage, the sun is still just one, large, white pixel. Everything else people are talking about is either a sand block (dual-wielding/lefty/pressure plate/quicksand people), another chest (behind the cacti clump), the horizon (not the ocean), glitches from stuff being super far away and then zoomed in megafar, etc, or Notch had already talked about it as being done/it has been done for a while, like the sunset, new biome code/sizes, and the cacti heights (which have been varied for as long as I can remember), but the sun is the only thing that wasn't at PAX.
Actually, you're wrong. If you go underwater in any previous version to 1.8, look at the sun, it has that yellow ring. Also, from my own experiences, I have always seen a yellow ring around the sun on sunrise and sunset. So it is not the sun.
I think it's dual wielding. He might not be using F1, he could just have cut off the GUI in the picture.
