The 1.8 update will possibly be split up into multiple parts, with most of the main features coming in a 1.8 patch and the little details and other features in a smaller patch like 1.8.2

Large hight limit has been denied by Notch himself at PAX as well as in twitter stating that there were many problems with it including increasing SMP chunk load times (obviously when loading up to twice as much information)
There is still seed influenced generation (all sudo random generation is based off a seed btw and weather or not you can choose the seed doesn't change that fact)
O and don't forget the awesome new creeper explosions :biggrin.gif:
Excited about most of the updates, but not very happy about the food system. It encourages camping way too much and just feels too weak. If we can't disable it, we better get direct healing items, like potions and the like.

Read the wiki, they'll gonna make nether better and if they dont manage to make npc, they just can turn off villages.
