Only 8 updates? I thought 1.8 would be huuuuuuuuge.
1. There are 8 CONFIRMED updates, not to mention originally there were also pistons and stuff.
2. It is huge. Dungeons probably means big dungeons and maybe a new type of monster spawner. There are also npc villages which you can ally or conquer or destroy. Mods will definitely go uup.
Randomly generated dunegeons? As in quests or story? Npc Village...will there be currency in the game...Village Wars? Intresting update I must say. Can't wait for the update only then will my question be answered...
You mean that people spammed in the thread too much?
While I agree on what the OP said on that thread, it was a pointless jab that was attracting flame wars and spam. Thats what probably got it deleted by mod.
The reason some people are upset about NPC's and the adventure aspect of the new features is that they believe it does not add to the hallmark of Minecraft.
Minecraft is a game that revolves around building and creativity. NPC's or dungeons are more suitable for an adventure kind of game. They are not aimed at extending the bounds of creativity for which is the hallmark of Minecraft. If people wanted adventuring, questing and interacting with NPC's, they could play other games that offer such features in a far more evolved form than Minecraft could feasibly achieve. e.g. World of Warcraft; Elder Scrolls, etc...
But Minecraft offers something those games do not, and that is allowing one to be creative and create. As such, the kind of features that would keep Minecraft moving in the 'right' direction are introductions of new mechanisms which can create new possibilities and extend limits. For example the addition of pistons was a good idea because it opened up many new possibilities in builds and mechanical systems.
Some people just don't like the idea of Minecraft turning into a generic game. The more generic features that become added, the more comparable Minecraft becomes to other games and inevitably makes it less unique.
If you don't see the mellinaire mod and complain about npc villages and quests and stuff, from now on, you are officially a n00b.
These npc villages are randomly generated, and so are the dungeons. They are as randomly generated as the ground beneath us, as the light from above, as the nether, as many other things. If you don't like the npc villages, then JUST KILL THEM OR GET A MOD AND/OR TURN THEM OFF AND DON'T SPAM!
I am aware the villages can be destroyed, just as almost anything can be in Minecraft.
But the argument is why is development time being used on something which doesn't add to the primary gameplay of Minecraft especially when the development team is limited on resources?
When Minecraft receives praise, it receives praise on the basis of allowing players freeform creativity. I've never heard praise directed towards its combat system or the ability to explore and raid 'dungeons', that is understandable because Minecraft wasn't intended to be an adventure game and the combat or adventure system is very primitive and lifeless because of this.
Pistons synergise perfectly with the primary gameplay of Minecraft because they add new possiblities in building. But adding adventuring, questing or raiding diverges away from building and therefore does not add to the primary content for which Minecraft is noted for. It instead would be, to use a nice term, 'diversification'.
Why would you want the developers of Minecraft to recreate World of Warcraft when you can just go play World of Warcraft or some of the million other games similar to WoW?
If you took away mobs and combat in Minecraft, many people would still play the game.
But if you took the ability to build, I don't think many people would still play Minecraft.
From that you can see the primary gameplay of Minecraft revolves around building.
The development team for Minecraft is relatively small, therefore have limited resources in adding new features.
Easy enough for you to understand?
You do understand you can still be creative with NPC towns and dungeons, right?
Clear out a dungeon, tweak it here and there, make an awesome base out of it. Hell, ransack and completely demolish other dungeons, take their blocks to your occupied dungeon, expand upon it, make a really awesome base.
NPC villages are give and take for me, I don't see much fun in passive-aggressive mobs living their daily life with no conflict save for perhaps a foolish hostile mob trying to stir up trouble among the villagers. However, if Notch added another faction of NPC villagers along with the first thats more aggressive, things could get pretty awesome with inter-village conflicts and raids. And the best part of that could be is you can join the fray, and loot the bodies! :biggrin.gif:
Never dig or mine down...

There.
Is.
NO.
ADVENTURE MODE.
I made a thread for that at http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/437457-there-is-no-adventuremode-in-the-adventure-update-so-stop-spamming/
Am I the only a "[#10344.1] You do not have permission to view this topic." when I try to access it?
Post was most likely deleted by mod on account of spam.

It makes sense.

'Doesn't add to the primary gameplay'? 'Limited on resources'?
._.
But if you took the ability to build, I don't think many people would still play Minecraft.

I'm not joking at all. I'm being serious.
Anyway, then, what would add to the primary content, and please provide examples.
