I guess I haven't put my full thoughts out so here goes.
1. We don't know enough about the experience system/leveling to make a good and informed decision about it. We don't know how we will get experience, and what the benefits are to getting levels, and we don't know if it will be what most of you are making it out to be so early on.
Say the benefits to getting levels are the ability to mine new blocks. I personally think this would destroy the "sandbox" style of this game. In order to build/craft something, you would have to be a certain level, which would severely limit creativity etc.
But what if the benefits to getting levels are things like doing more damage to mobs, taking less fall damage, breaking blocks faster, longer durability on tools, sprinting longer, not having to eat as much, etc? That wouldn't limit the sandbox style right? IMO It would make the game even funner!
Depending on how we get experience will be a major factor on how well this leveling thing will work. If it involves mining things, or building things, or pretty much anything you can do in Minecraft then it could work well. If it only involves one thing, like killing mobs, then it wont work, cause killing mobs just for exp is boring (grinding).
2. Permadeath. Alot of people had read this as (and are still reading it as (god help you)) permanent death. Which is when you die, you lose your world. The article in question DID NOT STATE ANYTHING about losing your world. It mentioned losing exp. So I am fine with this.

I'm sure that's what it will be. There would be no point of a diamond pickaxe, if you could mine obsidian with wood.
@Saluk
Though, I see where your coming from, with the progression through mobs. I just don't think it would feel the same.
(Ex. I'm on my minecraft world minding my own business, building a shelter, killing a few zombies. Oh level up cool.
Next day, okay there's twice as many zombies.. strange.. Level up again.
Next day, uhh why the hell are there so many damn zombies? Level up again.
By level 20, your hiding in your shelter, hearing the sounds of millions of zombies, creepers, skeletons, and spiders just waiting outside your small dirt shelter, waiting for that moment you peak out to kill you.)
I don't really know where I'm going with this. I just don't think thats the best idea. Thats all. Besides that I completely agree with you.
Good points, if it went too crazy it would get out of hand. Creeper attack! 50 creepers rush your fortress :smile.gif:
Perhaps it should only determine the mobs that spawn in dungeons? Like when you run across spawners, how many spawners are there, and what they spawn. That way it REALLY only affects you if you are looking for a fight.
I'm sure that's what it will be. There would be no point of a diamond pickaxe, if you could mine obsidian with wood.
It would probably be a speed increase. You still wouldn't get drops from obsidian with wood. Unless you do, in which case it's overpowered.

NO. Don't click New Thread. Read the rules. I don't give a damn how long or boring they are. If you do not, you will be subject to massive flaming and criticism by yours truly.
What i dont get is why people read the topic name and freak out and type a reply (with bad grammer) instead of also reading the main topic...
this is what i did i read the topic name not know what permadeath was i read the maintopic and like 16 pages of comments and found out a flame war was happening between... page 3 and 14
this is the people of minecraft:

1% want other things for minecraft
1% dont care
I don't think that XP will really fit Minecraft. But we'll have to wait and see I suppose. Maybe this will effect mining speed etc. (Jeb tweeted about having a way to change mining speed a few weeks ago)
OK. First, I'm pretty sure Notch knows what he's doing. Why would he ruin his game by adding a pointless levelling system? Plus, he never said that saves will get deleted. Stop inventing things PLEASE.
Wow I hope that permadeath is in at all levels and turned on by default and you have to turn it off, otherwise it loses all its meaning. This is basically how I like to play anyway.

No, I will not subscribe to your channel because you asked... but I might if it's *good*.
I think that the integration of leveling would give MC additional Replay Value. Permadeath doesn't sound good, but I believe it's basically the MC version of a Game Over, remember the "Hardcore" Difficulty Post a while back?
that's probably what's implied.. you die, the world is deleted, you gotta start over from scratch, etc.Remember everyone, Notch is trying to make every new feature he implements in the game fun for everyone.

Oh my god this sucks.
Even if permadeath is only in hard mode (then I think it's a cool idea), I ****ing hate RPG's and grind quest.
This ruined all anticipation I ever had for the 1.8 update. *sigh*
