If Notch adds sprinting, I want to see some parkour type moves, like wallrunning and such! Hard to program, and then again, I'd NEVER stop playing, even to sleep!

+ 2x run speed when sprinting
+ 2x damage when sprinting
- knockback is 2x as much
- damage taken is 2x as much
With running shoes -
+ same as above
+ increased "spring" while jumping in shoes
- same as above
- shoes wear out 2x quicker
- jumping wears them out 1.5x quicker
With Stamina Bar (do not like)
+ same as first one
+ able to pace (double key and it goes to 1.5 speed, triple key and it goes to running speed)
- same as first
- stamina is limited to 5 secs at 2x, 7.5 secs at 1.5.
And I totally agree with ye olde running animation to be the sprinting one. Shits and giggles all round.
Why not just make sprint work sort of like ice? It's a little hard to stop. That drawback might keep it fairly balanced. I worry that a stamina bar could overcomplicate things--I can't shake the feeling that we'll end up with special items to replenish that stamina quickly.
Those that disagree with a stamina bar idea for a limiting factor, don't want sprint at all. They just want faster movement. It has to have a limiting factor of some sort. otherwise it's not technically a sprint button. It would be a run fast button that you would be a noob for not holding down 100% of the time. Notch then may as well just make the player run faster all together and not bother coding a key for it.
Sprint needs a stamina bar, no arguments as there is no other way to set up a sprint function. Limited turning and all that other junk just deems to make carts obsolete unless of course they buff them as well. Then again I don't thing the average punter could be stuffed setting up a rail so they probably don't care...
Azzanine, I think you're making some assumptions there. Most of those protesting have requested alternative drawbacks. We don't want a 'run fast button' (although I have to wonder if there's really a difference).
Why not aux power like Half life 2? Just add a sprint meter that runs out and has to be recharged. Maybe also when you drown and get out of the water, you get the same health you had with 1 bubble left?
