I am leaving massive chunks of my map un-generated for now , i wanna find some
of the new stuff when it comes out.
If the villages just spawn at random in generated chunks, i might :Flint and Steel: burn their villages.
Given how long they took to implement pistons, I'd be surprised if they could hit the August deadline with this update.
If boss fights and raiding dungeons don't sound RPGish to you then I don't know what does.
The 'bosses' are probably no more than just normal dumb ai mobs with more health and damage, that are easily exploitable with bows and arrows. So I don't see what the excitement is about. It's not like they are going to have special mechanics or unique ai that would make a challenging boss fight.

Lots of games have bosses, it isn't just RPG games. Army of Two has bosses, Dark Sector had bosses, F.E.A.R. games had bosses, Chronicles of Riddick games had bosses. See where I'm going with this?
There's a lot more than just having bosses to make an RPG.
In my opinion, Notch is shooting for something out of the ordinary, like combining both sandbox and RPG. And whats wrong with adding RPG elements anyway? Don't want that aspect? Ignore it. Is it getting in your face? Destroy it. You can still explore strongholds on peaceful mode, and you can destroy the NPCs and their villages if you don't want them around.
Given how this would divert development resources from the sandbox aspect of Minecraft, I don't see it being good for Minecraft.
Instead of having to wait 2 months before a new mechanism is added, for example, remotely controlled redstone switches, now you'll have to wait 6 months for it. Because they are spending time adding 'content' that is irrelevant to a sandbox game.
If raiding and boss fighting is your thing, play WoW. If you love building and making complicated redstone circuits then play Minecraft.
If they had a big development team and enough resources, then yeah maybe it would be nice. But they don't.
i reckon minecraft gets kind of boring as a sandbox game itself as you run out of things to do but now hes adding sdsomething you can work for like helping a village

It'll release after PAX in late august when he's done addressing feedback. I'd assume near-end august or early september.

I second this.
If I wanted to play an RPG. Then I would go play a REAL rpg. Like the millions of RPGs out there that offer proper RPG features.
Notch. Please. Bring more building related or mechanical features like pipes, gears, remote controls, etc instead of RPG-like features.
Minecraft is NOT an RPG game, so I don't see why it should be overloaded with primitive RPG features.
Yeah, because simple NPCs and villages and random dungeons TOTALLY makes this game an RPG. /sarcasm
And you know, he can still implement the other things, just not right now. Enjoy a mod for it while you wait.

And those bosses have mechanics or different ai that distinguishes them from normal mobs.
Neither do they have monsters, so yeah.
