Sounds like you guys worked hard to get everthing back up. I'm gald you guys got i back up though, I can't live with Minecraft without the Forums and the Wiki.
Thank god you guys are super computer geniuses.
The 24 hour figure was the 24 hours of Windows running check disk on a many terabyte RAID 50 array.(This was one portion of the disks. See Xtek's post above for the full time.)
*Snip*
I have been awake for nearly 24 hours now.
Thanks for the explanation. It is very much appreciated even if I wasn't necessarily expecting so quick of a reply. It does explain quite a bit in terms of what is happening.
Go, get your rest! You certainly earned your salary over the past couple of days even if some more immature folks would say otherwise.
The one minor bug that I'm getting is a problem with links to some of my older posts, both stuff I've written before and after the crash. That part of the database might be corrupted. If that is the only thing dead, there isn't much to complain about though. The actual posts themselves seem to be fine and I haven't seen anything else that is amiss at the moment.
glad they finally got it back up. Sucks that they had to have a double hardware malfunction when the part that broke was getting the replacement sent in already but 2 weeks too late lol
Thank you Curse for the hard work. I am pretty sure that these days where a nightmare for the technicians. Downtime is pretty much the worst thing that can happen for websites. Especially after so long the stress must have been enormous. Great job in fixing it and thank you.
Having that said however I have seen 2 things:
1) Servers are (normally) built to be reliable. Filesystem architecture even more so. The chances of having both the main controller and the backup controller fail that close together is just impossibly small. It just shouldn't happen. So either something else caused them to fail or they are just bad. (That's just my opinion but just telling it)
2) If hardware failed then that has nothing to do with compromised personal data. Compromised means stolen not lost. If you meant to say "no personal data was lost" then just say so. If you feel guilty about not telling people the data was actually "compromised" then either don't say it at all or tell the full story. More than likely you meant to say "no data was lost" but I'm just pointing out what I feel about your wording.
No you guys should all go to sleep and take a bit of rest

1. Compromised;
a. To expose or make liable to danger, suspicion, or disrepute.
So, technically, their wording is correct, as the possibility of losing information is putting it in danger of being lost...
I'm surprised at the number of people who don't read the news posts though... they seem to think that Curse was down due to hackers... Lol. Fail.
Also, if you go to Google and type "define:random" (whereby you replace random with the desired word) it'll search dictionary websites and give you definitions.
Totally off topic, but, meh. It might help all these people differentiate between failure and hacked. :wink.gif:
Well done for coping very well with a hardware disaster. Me personally, if my computer had a fatal error I would just kick it repeatedly and hope for the best.
Thanks for all the commitment you give for our personal enjoyment!
I'm glad that you gave us such a good report on why the servers were down. That really makes it up to me. I was going to be angry, but now I won't be. Good job.

Version 2.1 now updated for MC 1.6.2
AND I almost DIED without these forums!
I'm guessing they run the main site on a much, much smaller separate server so they can post updates, etc. Makes sense really.
I'm just glad it took no longer than a week considering the failures they had to deal with. C:
What are you on about? A search for optimine optifog minecraft forums brought me to this topic no problem. Or am I not understanding your issue?
I missed the forums!
